"Step Up 3D" Movie Review

“Step Up 3D” is the third installment of the popular franchise. This time, the hip-hop fairy tale is back with an intriguing gimmick making the movie the first dance drama ever to be shot and released in digital 3D.

As expected, the filmmakers stepped up the film’s look and dance numbers. Those are two great qualities to make any “Step Up” fan curious about the third movie even though the story and the script are relegated backstage. Read More...

Robert Rodriguez May Breathe New Life Into "Deadpool"

Will he or will he not? The interwebz have been atwitter about the possibility of Robert Rodriguez directing "Deadpool" with Mr. Green Lantern himself, Ryan Reynolds, attached to star. Last month, both Fox and Rodriguez camps were denying that the director was going to helm the "X-Men" spin-off. But they both agreed that the director received the script written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. (Check out my original June report on this news right here)

But Rodriguez has a love affair with Fox, the most recent is his producing assignment for the studio's "Predators." According to Steven Zeitchik of the LA Times:

But we're hearing that after a few weeks of dancing, Rodriguez and studio Fox are negotiating. There's no deal yet, and the sides need to agree on a number of key points, but it's moved beyond the casual discussion stage and into the more substantive realm of deal points.

I think Rodriguez and "Deadpool" make a perfect pair! But before the Marvel superhero drama, the director will be busy promoting "Machete" and working on "Spy Kids 4!" Really? It's the fourth installment already? And do we really need another "Spy Kids" movie?

Irony Alert: Original Rambo May Direct Young Rambo for Prequel!

Sylvester Stallone, promoting his upcoming "The Expendables," revealed that a "Rambo" prequel may soon hit theaters. He told Ain't It Cool News:

“I certainly think this is worth pondering because it’s intriguing to find the whys and wherefores of how people have come to become what they are...The traumas, the loss, and the tragedy of being in Vietnam would certainly be a great challenge for a young actor, and it would be ironic that Rambo directs younger Rambo after having played it for 20 plus years.”

Sure I'll watch the film, but my heart might break. I just can't picture a new actor to play Rambo. Stallone IS Rambo in my heart. And note to Mr. Sly -- Please stop rummaging through your old characters. Invent new ones, like what you're trying to do with "The Expendables." Now that, I want to see with an open mind and heart.

"Inception" Remains No. 1 for Third Week

Christopher Nolan's "Inception" continues to have dreamy reception at the box office. The mind-bending thriller remained at No. 1 for the third-straight weekend.

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, "Inception" sold $27.5 million worth of tickets, bringing its total to $193.3 million. For a while though, it looked like "Dinner for Schmucks" starring Steve Carell and Paul Rudd would eclipse "Inception" with the comedy winning Friday's box-office take.

But in the end, Carell and Rudd must settle for the No. 2 spot with $23.3 million. (Check out my interviews with Carell and Rudd, director Jay Roach, and the supporting cast right here, and my movie review of "Dinner for Schmucks" right here).

Meanwhile, the 3-D family adventure, "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore" did better at the box office than the Zac Efron film "Charlie St. Cloud." "Cats & Dogs" entered the No. 5 spot with $12.5 million while "Charlie" settled for No. 6 with $12.1 million. (Check out my interviews with the "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore" cast right here).

Here's the estimated Top 10 box office films for weekend of July 30:

1. "Inception," $27.5 million.

2. "Dinner for Schmucks," $23.3 million.

3. "Salt," $19.2 million.

4. "Despicable Me," $15.5 million.

5. "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore," $12.5 million.
