"Hitchcock" Movie Review

Good evening! “Hitchcock” goes into wide release this weekend, hoping to be showered with adoration this awards season. Based on the book by Stephen Rebello, (“Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho”) the movie is directed by Sacha Gervasi (“Anvil: The Story of Anvil”) and the script is written by John J. McLaughlin (“Black Swan”).

Anthony Hopkins plays the beloved director while Helen Mirren is Alma Reville, Hitchcock’s longtime collaborator and long-neglected wife. The rest of the cast includes Scarlett Johansson (Janet Leigh), Jessica Biel (Vera Miles), Toni Collette (Peggy Robertson), and James D’Arcy (Anthony Perkins).

Is the movie good enough for the Oscars? Watch my review:

Here's the full press release:

Palm Springs, CA (December 5, 2012) – The 24th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) will present the film Argo with its Ensemble Performance Award. Cast members from the film, including Ben Affleck, Alan Arkin and Bryan Cranston will attend to accept the award. Presented by Cartier, the Awards Gala will be held Saturday, January 5, at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Hosted by Mary Hart, the Awards Gala will also present awards to previously announced honorees Helen Hunt, Naomi Watts and Robert Zemeckis. The Festival runs January 3-14.

“Argo features a plethora of colorful characters brought to life by an outstanding acting ensemble,” said Festival Chairman Harold Matzner. “Directing what is, unquestionably, his most accomplished film to date, Ben Affleck leads an extraordinary cast, also including Alan Arkin, John Goodman and Bryan Cranston, each of whom delivers powerhouse performances. The Palm Springs International Film Festival is proud to present the entire cast of Argo with the 2013 Ensemble Performance Award.”

Warner Bros. Pictures’ dramatic thriller Argo chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis. The drama focuses on the little-known role that the CIA and Hollywood played—information that was not declassified until many years after the event. Ben Affleck directs and stars in the film, which also stars Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Victor Garber, Tate Donovan, Clea DuVall, Scoot McNairy, Rory Cochrane, Christopher Denham, Kerry Bishé, Kyle Chandler and Chris Messina. Argo is produced by Grant Heslov, Affleck, and George Clooney. The screenplay is by Chris Terrio, based on a selection from The Master of Disguise by Antonio J. Mendez and the Wired Magazine article “The Great Escape,” by Joshuah Bearman.

Laura Linney Interview “Hyde Park on Hudson”

I’ve always been a fan of Laura Linney ever since I saw her as Mary Ann Singleton in 1993’s “Tales of the City” by Armistead Maupin. Since then, the actress has starred in numerous films that continued to validate my initial though – Laura Linney is a fantastic character actress. In the new movie “Hyde Park on Hudson” from director Roger Michell (“Notting Hill”), Linney stars as Daisy, the self-proclaimed “part of the furniture” paramour of FDR. In this interview, we talked about:

*** I told her I’ve been a fan since “Tales of the City” – I’m now complete
*** What made her interested in making “Hyde Park on Hudson”
*** Did she like the whole political aspect of the film?
*** The movie’s even tone of funny, historical, drama – and it’s a beautiful film to boot!
*** Working with Bill Murray
*** How did she research for the role?
*** The best way of eating hot dogs?
*** What’s next for Laura Linney?
*** What does she want audiences to take away from the film?

Olivia Williams Interview “Hyde Park on Hudson”

I love Olivia Williams! She’s always been a gracious interviewee – witty, sweet, and funny. In the new movie “Hyde Park on Hudson,” Williams stars as First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, playing opposite Bill Murray as FDR. The actress has a knack for stealing scenes – she was amazing in the underrated “The Ghost Writer.” In this interview, we talked about:

*** Her knack for stealing scenes
*** What attracted her to making “Hyde Park on Hudson”
*** Eleanor’s true-life articles
*** The many values of Eleanor Roosevelt
*** How she researched Eleanor?
*** What’s the best way to eat hotdogs?
