As you may know, yours truly is from the super cool, well, right now, super hot city of Palm Springs. I love the valley, and one of the reasons I enjoy my stay here is the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films, or ShortFest!
You can see many great films at the fest (this year's Academy Award winner for documentary short, "Freeheld," was screened at last year's Shortfest), and you can check out their fantastic site here!
So buy your tickets (Aug. 21 - 27), visit Palm Springs, and check out the town I call my home!

This report from Variety about the opening box-office weekend last Friday said:
Universal's "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" bowed to an estimated $15.3 million on Friday, putting it ahead of the estimated $12.6 million earned by Warner Bros.' "The Dark Knight."
Playing in 3,759 locales, "Dragon Emperor's" haul marks the second highest opening day for the "Mummy" franchise behind 2001's "The Mummy Returns" which posted $23.4 million in its first day and $68.1 million over three-days.
But guess what? "The Dark Knight" bounced back and continued to be the top film for the 3rd weekend in a row. Our caped crusader opened with $43.8 million versus "The Mummy's" $42.5 million take.
We can officially say that "The Dark Knight" is the final nail in "The Mummy's" coffin. Click read more to see the complete list of the top 10 box office films for the weekend of Aug. 1st. Read More...
