Venice Film Festival's First Ever 3-D Award! All the Films Are Made in the U.S.A.!

The nine films vying for the first ever 3-D prize at the 66th Venice Film Festival are all from the good old U.S.A.

And the nine films in contention for the Person 3-D award are:

"Up" by Pete Docter
"The Hole" by Joe Dante, making its world premiere
"Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3-D” by Eric Brevig
“Monsters vs. Aliens” by Rob Letterman and Conrad Vernon
“My Bloody Valentine” by Patrick Lussier
“Battle for Terra” by Aristomenis Tsirbas
“Coraline” by Henry Selick
“Jonas Brothers: The 3-D Concert Experience” by Bruce Hendricks
“Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” by Carlos Saldanha.

The Venice Film Festival site says, "The Persol 3-D Award will be presented to the feature film which at best embodies the exploration of this new frontier of the cinematic language, and which is attracting enormous creative attention from filmmakers and producers, besides that of worldwide audiences."

So 3-D is an art form that's now being recognized as "cinema." è stato fantastico! My pick to win the first ever Persol 3-D award? "Up" by Pete Docter! No not, really, "Jonas Brothers" is my pick, HA!

But we have to wait until the winner is announced. The award will be presented with a ceremony in the Sala Grande, during the 66th Venice International Film Festival (September 2-12, 2009), directed by Marco Müller and organized by the Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta.

"Green Hornet" Finds Kato

Jay Chou, a Taiwanese singer and actor, will be joining the cast of "The Green Hornet." He'll play Seth Rogen's masked avenger sidekick, Kato.

Chou replaces Stephen Chow, who left the production last month.

The role was made popular by Bruce Lee in the original 1960s TV series.

So who exactly is Jay Chou? According to Wikipedia, Chou is a:

Taiwanese musician, singer, producer, actor and director who has won the World Music Award four times. He is well-known for composing all his own songs and songs for other singers. In 1998 he was discovered in a talent contest where he displayed his piano and song-writing skills. Over the next two years, he was hired to compose for popular Chinese singers. Although he was trained in classical music, Chou combines Chinese and Western music styles to produce songs that fuse R&B, rock and pop genres, covering issues such as domestic violence, war, and urbanization.

Wow, a singing Kato!

Director Michel Gondry is still set to helm from a script co-written by Rogen. Production for "The Green Hornet" is set to start in the fall, with a summer 2010 release.

Gondry tells Variety that "Jay is incredibly unique and charming and fights like a wild dog!"

Right now, Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz are still negotiating to play roles in the film. Cage for the gangster villain, while Diaz as the reporter love interest.

John Hughes, the guy who gave us those fantastic 80s nuggets such as "The Breakfast Club," "Sixteen Candles," "Pretty in Pink," and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," has passed away. He was 59.

TMZ is reporting that Hughes suffered the heart attack while taking a morning walk during a trip to NYC to visit family. John Hughes has died of a heart attack.

My Fun "Bandslam" Interviews with Vanessa Hudgens, Lisa Kudrow, and Much, Much More! Rock On!

First of, I love "Bandslam." I didn't know what to expect walking in, and I was clapping like a true fan walking out!

From the production company that gave us "Twilight," Summit Entertainment continues to delight this summer ("The Hurt Locker" is also from Summit, and one of the best films this year).

Gaelan Connell stars as Will Burton, a high school student with extensive knowledge in music. When Will and his mom Karen (Lisa Kudrow) move to New Jersey, his musical dreams come true.

Will, together with the school's most popular girl, Charlotte (Alyson Michalka of Aly & AJ), assemble a fledgling rock band. Now, they much compete against the best of the best in the biggest event of the year, a battle of the bands. Bandslam!

But first, Will must profess his true love for Sa5m (the 5 is silent), a quirky young girl played sweetly by "High School Musical's" Vanessa Hudgens. Oh, and like a die-hard rock fan, Will tells his whole story to David Bowie via email.

I credit the film's awesomeness (:happy) to director Todd Graff ("Camp"). Graff understands music and kids and knows how to blend them well. Graff co-wrote the script with Josh A. Cagan who came up with the story.

"Bandslam" opens August 14th, so make sure you watch it! And "Twilight" fans, you'll get to see the new trailer for "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" with "Bandslam."

So here are my fun one-on-one interviews:

VANESSA HUDGENS AND ALY MICHALKA

Both Vanessa and Aly are super-sweet! We talked about:

*** How they got involved with BANDSLAM
*** How they prepared for their roles? Guitar Heroes anyone?
*** Vanessa Hudgens' Filipino Culture -- she spoke in Tagalog to me! Yay! :happy

LISA KUDROW AND GAELAN CONNELL

The mom and son team have great chemistry in person! We talked about:

*** Their involvement with the film
*** Working with Director Todd Graff
*** Gaelan's kissing scenes with both Vanessa Hudgens and Aly Michalka
*** And why you have to see BANDSLAM right now
