Robert Redford Beats Steven Spielberg to the Punch! Actor-Director to Make "Lincoln" Movie!

Robert Redford goes to the land of Lincoln and may well finish his film before Steven Spielberg's similarly-themed project.

But the main difference between the two films is the premise itself. Redford's movie will concentrate on the conspiracy surrounding Lincoln's assassination, while Spielberg's will focus on the life and times of the great president. Liam Neeson was once attached to play Abraham Lincoln.

Redford will direct the historical drama "The Conspirator" about the story of Mary Surratt, the "alleged" conspirator of Lincoln's assassin John Wilkes Booth.

Mary Surratt "was tried and executed for her involvement in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. The aid she provided Booth with in delivering materials to specific locations for him prior to the murder appeared to prove her guilt, and she became the first woman ever executed in the United States.

Her son, John Surratt, Jr., was involved in John Wilkes Booth's conspiracy schemes in their beginning stages." (Source)

James McAvoy may join the cast once "The Conspirator" begins shooting in the fall. Perhaps the actor will play the role of a young Union hero named Frederick Aiken who defended Mary Surratt, and eventually realized that the widow might have been innocent.

This is compelling and intriguing!

Bruce Willis Joins Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables"

Bruce Willis has confirmed that he will be joining "The Expendables" with an undisclosed cameo. The film, written, directed, and starring Sylvester Stallone is an ultra-violent flick with a star-studded cast!

Also starring in the film is the Governator, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Jet Li, and the fantastic Mickey Rourke. The premise of "The Expendables" revolves around a group of mercenaries overthrowing a South American dictator. It's a balls-out action film!

Willis told MTV News that he will soon join Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger to shoot a very special scene for the flick.

Hhhhmmmm, special?

Here's what he revealed to MTV News:

“Not yet, I haven’t united with them,” said Willis. “I’m waiting for a call from Sly about when we’re going to try and make that happen.”

“I don’t know anything about [my character] yet, haven’t seen any pages yet,” Willis explained. “But I’m excited about it.”

Willis confirmed to us that the scene will involved himself, Arnold and Sly together on camera. “That’s the concept,” he said with a grin. “That’s the plan.”

Oh, besides the above-mentioned cast, other action heroes joining the project are Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin, Terry Crews and Randy Couture. What? Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme are busy?

James McAvoy to Star in Cancer Comedy with Seth Rogen

James McAvoy, who captured everyone's imagination in last year's "Wanted," is set to star in an untitled cancer comedy flick to be directed by Nicole Holofcener.

Previously titled "I'm With Cancer," the film is being produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Ben Karlin and is set to begin shooting in January. Rogen will also co-star in the dramedy.

As the previous title suggests, McAvoy will star as a 25-year old who learns he has cancer. His character is supposed to be based on screenwriter Will Reiser who was diagnosed with cancer in his mid-20s and successfully won the battle.

This sounds like a perfect film for Holofcener, known to direct character-driven films such as "Walking and Talking," "Lovely and Amazing," and "Friends with Money."

McAvoy previously stole everyone's hearts with his role as Keira Knightley's lover in the Oscar-nominated film "Atonement" and his searing portrayal opposite Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker in "The Last King of Scotland."

Get Ready for "White Chicks" the Sequel!

Sony and the Wayans Brothers think you want another "White Chicks," so they're developing a sequel to the 2004 comedy! Marlon and Shawn Wayans will reprise their roles as FBI agents posing as white chicks!

Keenen Ivory Wayans is set to direct, and all three Wayans are writing the script.

The original was a surprise hit. The budget for the 2004 film was around $37 million, and the movie grossed almost $70 million! Hence, the sequel.

But the big question? Will the white chicks in the title look like aliens with bad make-up or will they finally perfect the transformation?

Sony Gets Writer for "Spider-Man 5" and "Spider-Man 6!"

"Spider-Man" will not begin production until early next year, but Sony Pictures has already set a writer for "Spider-Man 5" and "Spider-Man 6."

James Vanderbilt, the guy who gave us "Zodiac," is going to write the fifth and sixth installments. He was the first writer on "Spider-Man 4" but apparently, director Sam Raimi wanted more so he brought "Rabbit Hole" playwright David Lindsay-Abaire for rewrites. Now, Gary Ross is rewriting the script.

According to Variety, "Raimi didn't embrace all of Vanderbilt's ideas, but execs at Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios have."

Ooooh, a web of intrigue! Drama between Raimi and Sony about scripts?

Well, it's unclear whether Raimi, Tobey Maguire, and Kirsten Dunst will be back. But Sony is confident that if the principal cast and Raimi do not return, they will use Vanderbilt's script for a franchise reboot!
