Hurray! "How to Train Your Dragon" Unleashes Box-Office Fire with $43.3 M Opening!

"How to Train Your Dragon" soars at the weekend box-office with a $43.3 million opening. The fantastic DreamWorks Animation film debuted at No. 1! (Check out my movie review right here, and my interviews with Jay Baruchel, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, and writers/director Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois)

Although "How to Train Your Dragon" came in behind DreamWorks' previous animated adventure, "Monsters vs. Aliens," which opened same weekend last year with $59.3 million, the studio believes the film will have incredible staying power because of strong reviews (including yours truly) and positive responses from viewers in exit polls.

Featuring the voices of Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Gerard Butler, and Craig Ferguson, "How to Train Your Dragon" is larger-than-life family entertainment and outperformed other recent animated films like "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" which debuted with $30.3 million last September.

Meanwhile, Disney's "Alice in Wonderland" has been toppled down by the "Dragon." The No. 1 film of the last three weekends, slipped to No. 2 with $17.3 million. So far, the Tim Burton-Johnny Depp collaboration raised its domestic total to $293.1 million and worldwide with $656 million.

"Alice" continued to wear the worldwide box-office crown where it earned $46 million while "How to Train Your Dragon" opened with $42 million.

Domestically, John Cusack's throwback to the raunchy teen comedies of the 80s, "Hot Tub Time Machine," had a lukewarm reception debuting at No. 3 with $13.7 million. Maybe MGM should have released this film in 3-D :happy

Here's the estimated Top 10 Box Office films for weekend of March 26:

1. "How to Train Your Dragon," $43.3 million.
2. "Alice in Wonderland," $17.3 million.
3. "Hot Tub Time Machine," $13.7 million.
4. "The Bounty Hunter," $12.4 million.
5. "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," $10 million.
6. "She's Out of My League," $3.5 million.
7. "Green Zone," $3.3 million.
8. "Shutter Island," $3.2 million.
9. "Repo Men," $3 million.
10. "Our Family Wedding," $2.2 million.

The Super-Funny Jay Baruchel Reveals Secrets About "How to Train Your Dragon"

Jay Baruchel is a sweetheart! I love him! He's one cool dude! And he's funny, funny, funny! Two weeks ago, I interviewed Baruchel for "She's Out of My League" (a super-funny film, have you seen it yet? YOU BETTER!!!!), and last weekend, I met the actor again for "How to Train Your Dragon." So I'm officially stalking him :happy

But this interview with Baruchel is definitely one of my favorites! And it helped that "How to Train Your Dragon" was great! It's a larger-than-life family entertainment best seen in 3-D!

In this interview, we talked about:

*** His work on the film (3 years he says!)
*** His character Hiccup
*** His relationship with the dragon Toothless
*** The animation of the film
*** His favorite dragon!
*** The moral of the story
