"Spider-Man" the Musical Lives On! Gets a New...Title?

Okay I must admit, back in September, when I first heard about plans on turning our friend Spidey into a musical, I thought it was a joke!

But no. It's for reals, y'all!

Take a look at the above "official" Broadway image teaser, and you can go to their website as well.

Here are more fun facts:

1) Music and lyrics to be provided by U2's Bono and the Edge (okay, intriguing)

2) This will be directed by Julie Traymor (she adapted the Broadway version of "The Lion King")

3) The full title? "Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark" -- okay, don't laugh...I guess it's better than Turn On the Light? It's still a hokey title, oh well...this may change...

As far as the story, read the press-release:

"The musical follows the story of teenager Peter Parker, whose unremarkable life is turned upside-down—literally—when he’s bitten by a genetically altered spider and wakes up the next morning clinging to his bedroom ceiling. This bullied science-geek—suddenly endowed with astonishing powers—soon learns, however, that with great power comes great responsibility as villains test not only his physical strength but also his strength of character. Spider-Man’s battles will hurtle the audience through an origin story both recognizable and unexpected—yielding new characters as well as familiar faces—until a final surprising confrontation casts a startling new light on this hero’s journey."

Oh, by the way, if you go to the website, previews of the show will begin January 16th of next year, and the show will officially open on February 18th.

I wonder how "The Wrestler's" Evan Rachel Wood will put her own brand of spin to the Mary Jane character?

Okay, I'm kind of intrigued yet repulsed by the idea of a singing, dancing "Spider-Man" but confession time...I signed up for updates on their website, so you should too :happy
