Wild Rumpus for "Where the Wild Things Are!" Film Takes Top Box-Office Spot!

Moviegoers went wild for "Where the Wild Things Are." But as expected, adults more than family crowds made up for the film's audience.

Warner Bros. targeted the adult demographics for "Where the Wild Things Are" and it paid off. The film adaptation of Maurice Sendak's beloved children's classic debuted at No. 1 with $32.5 million.

Meanwhile, the violent vengeance thriller "Law Abiding Citizen" starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler took the No. 2 spot with $21.3 million.

And "Paranormal Activity" continues its horrifically great box-office performance. Paramount's low-budget horror phenomenon moved up to No. 3 with $20.2 million. Made for a mere $15,000, many insiders are predicting that "Paranormal Activity" will match "Blair Witch Project's" box office power. Both used shakey-cam techniques, both came out of nowhere, and both are heralded as game-changing films.

"Blair Witch" eventually reached a total of $140 million at the box office. Currently, "Paranormal Activity" is at $33 million.

Here's the list of the Top 10 box-office films for weekend of Oct. 16th:

1. "Where the Wild Things Are," $32.5 million.
2. "Law Abiding Citizen," $21.3 million.
