Paramount Pictures wants a sequel to "Paranormal Activity."
According to The Hollywood Reporter:
In Viacom's earnings call Tuesday morning, CEO Philippe Dauman said the movie has been one of those surprise hits that comes along only rarely.
Given that a follow-up release wouldn't have the same element of surprise as "Paranormal," it will be key to craft a smart approach to a sequel, he said. "Our team will come up with the right creative and marketing approach," he told analysts.
But before Paramount takes the sequel route, I hope the studio pays attention to the rushed sequel to another shaky-cam phenomenon, "The Blair Witch Project." The second installment, "Book of the Shadows: Blair Witch 2" was HORRIBLE!!!!!
But I like that the studio is talking about "a smart approach to a sequel." "Paranormal Activity" is so simple, it's scary, that putting a Hollywood spin on the franchise may just hurt it in the long run.
When I interviewed the cast of "Paranormal," Micah Sloat and Katie Featherston, I did ask them about sequel plans. Take a look at what they said by clicking here.
