"G.I. Joe" Sequel Announced, "Star Trek 2" Gets Release Date!

Paramount revealed some exciting news. First, "G.I. Joe" is making a comeback! The studio is currently negotiating with "Zombieland" scriptwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to write the script to the sequel.

This may be good, since Reese and Wernick proved in "Zombieland" that they know plot build-up and character development -- two things missing in the first "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra."

Reese and Wernick are currently busy writing the "X-Men" spinoff "Deadpool."

And the second exciting news from Paramount? "Star Trek" sequel will beam into theaters on June 29, 2012 just in time for our 4th of July weekend.

The WGA Awards-nominated writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have joined forces with "Lost" co-creator Damon Lindelof to pen the script.

For now, J.J. Abrams has signed-on to produce the sequel, but no word yet if he's returning to direct.
