Watch Out George Lucas, "Harry Potter" is About to Top "Star Wars" for Forbes List of Hollywood's Richest Film Franchises 


Thank the Force that George Lucas is re-releasing the six "Star Wars" feature films in 3D in 2012 because "Harry Potter" is about to overtake the sci-fi franchise according to Forbes list of of Hollywood's Richest Film Franchises.

With "Harry Potter's" final two films about to be released, it is safe to estimate that the boy wizard will win over Luke Skywalker. But still, there's that planned 3-D re-release so it will be magic versus the light saber for the next few years. Who will emerge victorious?

Here's the list of the Top 10 Richest Film Franchises:

1. "Star Wars" -- $2 billion
2. "Harry Potter" -- $1.7 billion
3. "James Bond" -- $1.6 billion
4. "Batman" -- $1.4 billion
5. "Shrek" -- $1.3 billion
6. "Spider-Man" -- $1.2 billion
7. "Lord of the Rings" -- $1 billion
8. "Pirates of the Caribbean" -- $1 billion
9. "Star Trek" -- $1 billion
10. "Indiana Jones" -- $903 million

NOTE: Forbes magazine used only domestic box-office figures and did not adjust for inflation. Hence, "Avatar" was missing on the list
