Moviegoers Join "The Social Network!" Facebook Movie Tops Box-Office with $23 Million! 


As expected, movie buffs friended "The Social Network" and took it to the top spot. The David Fincher movie written by Aaron Sorkin, debuted at No. 1 with $23 million. The film is also a critical darling garnering much-needed Oscar buzz. (Check out my written review of "The Social Network" right here, and my video review right here)

Holding up well in its second week of release was "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole." The animated tale from director Zack Synder retained the No. 2 spot with $10.9 million and raising its total to $30 million. Previous weekend's box-office champ fell to third place. Fox's "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" slipped to No. 3 with $10.1 million. The Oliver Stone-directed film starring Shia LaBeouf, Josh Brolin, and Michael Douglas has made $35.9 million since its release. Meanwhile, the weekend's other new wide release did not fare as well as "The Social Network." The long-delayed "Case 39" starring Renee Zelwegger and Bradley Cooper opened at No. 7 with $5.35 million while "Let Me In," the American version of the Swedish vampire drama "Let the Right One In," debuted at No. 8 with $5.3 million.

Here's the estimated Top 10 list of films at box-office for weekend of Oct. 1:

1. "The Social Network," $23 million.

2. "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole," $10.9 million.

3. "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps," $10.1 million.

4. "The Town," $10 million.

5. "Easy A," $7 million.

6. "You Again," $5.6 million.

7. "Case 39," $5.35 million.

8. "Let Me In," $5.3 million.

9. "Devil," $3.7 million.

10. "Alpha and Omega," $3 million.
