"Thor" Wields Box-Office Power for Second Weekend! 


Lightning truly struck twice for the mighty "Thor!" The Paramount super-hero pic hammered down competition to emerge as the box-office champ in its second week of release. ("Thor" Movie Review)

Directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Anthony Hopkins, "Thor" sold $34.5 million worth of tickets for a total of $119.2 million since its release. Meanwhile, Universal's laugh-a-minute, "Bridesmaids" had a strong, solid opening! The raunchy but sweet comedy starring Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph debuted at No. 2 with $24.4 million. ("Bridesmaids" Movie Review)

Universal is having a great weekend at the box-office! Its super-popular car-racing flick, "Fast Five" took the No. 3 spot with $19.5 million.

The other new film to open last weekend, "Priest," debuted at No. 4 with $14.5 million, not too shabby for a reheated B-movie schlockfest. But Fox's animated adventure, "Rio" continued to fly high with its No. 5 performance selling $8 million of box-office tickets in its fifth weekend in theaters.
