THE DIRECTORS GUILD ANNOUNCED THEIR NOMINEES!!!!

Here it is folks, the DGA announced their nominees! And, it's kind of heart-warming to know, there are no nominees from a Hollywood blockbuster film! It's a diverse selection indeed (all the nominees are included in my Top 10 favorite films !)

The DGA honored those directors with their personal visions stamped all over the screen!

Keep in mind that the DGA winner and the Oscar winner for director have matched in 53 of the last 59 years, including last year, when Martin Scorsese won for "The Departed."

The winner will be announced at the DGA Awards dinner and ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel on Saturday evening, January 26, 2008.

And the nominees are:

• Paul Thomas Anderson - "There Will Be Blood" (Paramount Vantage)

• Joel Coen & Ethan Coen - "No Country for Old Men" (Miramax ilms and Paramount Vantage)

• Tony Gilroy - "Michael Clayton" (Warner Bros.)

• Sean Penn - "Into the Wild" (Paramount Vantage)

• Julian Schnabel - "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" (Miramax Films)

THE HYPE SURROUNDING "CLOVERFIELD"

The marketing folks at Paramount Pictures are taking "how-to-market-a-film" lessons from "The Blair Witch Project" team. Hype the heck out of the movie, then keep your fingers crossed that the product is good, at least, for repeat business.

Last summer, we all saw the teaser for the film, without a title! All we witnessed was the going-away party for some guy in NY, then mayhem ensues, then poor, old Liberty's head flies onto the screen. The End.

Then slowly but surely, the Paramount folks started unveiling more details about the movie, giving us bits and pieces about it, like the title, which is now known as "Cloverfield."

Then everyone started speculating, is it an alien, is it a monster, is it Britney Spears?

Paramount is so tight-lipped with the film, I can't even bring a guest with me to the advanced screening! Darn them!

Well, we finally have a picture of the supposed monster:

And wayangtopia.com was resourceful enough to break details down for all of us:

• The film started out as an “elaborate 60-page treatment” by Lost writer Drew Goddard.
• "Cloverfield" features no musical score at all, “just source music and well-orchestrated ambient sound.”
• The beginning of the film was shot with a lightweight Panasonic HD HandyCam, “then moves into transitional sequences shot with a 3-lb. Canon for about a third of the film.” The special effects shots were filmed with “the much-heavier” hi-res Sony F23 or Thomson Viper.
• One five-minute continuous master shot “incorporates 20 VFX elements.”
• Director Matt Reeves promises “intimate contact” with the monster by the end of the 90-minute film.
• A digital version of "Cloverfield" will play on in a few hundred screens.
• The film cost $25 million and hits theaters on 1-18-08.

BUT HERE'S THE BIG QUESTION: ANOTHER MOVIE, "SNAKES ON A PLANE" FOLLOWED "THE BLAIR WITCH" MARKETING CAMPAIGN STYLE. AND WE ALL KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MOVIE. IT FLOPPED! BUT, "CLOVERFIELD" ONLY COST $25 MILLION (DOUBLE THAT WITH MARKETING COST), AND PARAMOUNT SHOULD BE ABLE TO RECOUP AND MAKE MONEY FROM THIS MONSTER MOVIE!

NICOLE KIDMAN SAYS BUH-BYE TO "THE READER"

Miss Nicole Kidman quits "The Reader," a film to be directed by Stephen Daldry and co-starring Ralph Fiennes.

Her reason?

Pregnancy! Miss Nicole has been busy with husband, Keith Urban.

At least she hasn't shot any scenes yet.

But Kidman fans can still see their idol at the end of the year, when she reunites with her "Moulin Rouge" director, Baz Luhrmann, for the big-budget epic "Australia" with fellow Australian, Hugh Jackman.

NEW FILM FOR "JUNO" WRITER -- AND IT'S CREEPY!!!!

Miss Diablo Cody (left) is teaming up with "Transformers'" hottie, Megan Fox (right) for Cody's new slasher flick she wrote called, "Jennifer's Body."

The film is going to be financed by Fox Atomic, and Karyn Kusama is set to direct this quirky comedic thriller about a cheerleader (Fox) who becomes possessed and begins killing the young men who lust after her!

SOUNDS DEVILICIOUSLY FUN!!!!

Now, have no fear, "Juno's" helmer, Jason Reitman, is one of the producers! He should be able to help Kusama, who did good in "Girlfight" and sucked bad in "Aeon Flux."

But it's a comedy, it's a thriller, I'M THERE!!!
