Okay, Zac Efron mesmerized millions of tweens in the "High School Musical" films. And, he created major buzz in his star-making role in "Hairspray."

Now, Efron wants to prove he can really, really act! He's set to star in "Me and Orson Welles," an adaptation of the period coming-of-age novel by Robert Kaplow that Richard Linklater will direct.

Here's a quick plot summary -- set in 1937, the story centers on a high school student (Efron) who, while strolling the streets of New York, happens upon the yet-to-open Mercury Theatre and is noticed by its mercurial founder, Orson Welles. The man lands a bit part in "Julius Caesar," the production that catapulted Welles to the top, and spends the next week learning about life and love.

Newcomer Christian McKay will play Welles. Ben Chaplin ("Water Horse: The Legend of the Deep") has been cast as English film and stage actor George Coulouris.

The script was written by Holly Gent Palmo, who was a production coordinator on Linklater's "Dazed and Confused," and Vince Palmo, who was first assistant director on several of the helmer's films.

I worship the filmmaking sensibilities of Linklater, so I'll keep my mouth shut until I see the final cut! Plus, this may guide all the misguided tweens of today to see Welles' "Citizen Kane" -- the best movie ever!!!

Well, it's more of a bad news for me. There's a little "Rambo" fan in me that wants to see this sequel. Why? Because I'm a child of the 80s and "Rambo" painted parts of my popular culture.

Now, I just heard from Lionsgate that they will not screen this film at all! Well, we know what that means right? The movie, directed by Mister Sylvester Stallone himself, is a potential stinker!

But have no fear lovely viewers, I will shell out my personal, hard-earned cash to see this movie and give you updates!

For now, check out my Rambo entry, which is pretty much everything you want to know about this guerilla-soldier.

He's the iconic director with equally iconic personal dramas:

First, in 1969, his wife, Sharon Tate, was murdered by the Manson Family.

Second, and the most intriguing, in 1978, he pled guilty to having unlawful sexual intercourse with a thirteen year old girl. Polanski fled to France, where he now resides and is considered by US authorities to be a fugitive from justice.

Now, filmmaker Marina Zenovich, unveiled her documentary at Sundance about the director's statutory rape trial and urges a second look at the particulars of the case.

And of course, The Weinstein Co., the first major American distributor to make a move at Sundance, picked up international rights to "Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired."

George Clooney has been named a U.N. "messenger of peace" by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The announcement is to promote the world body's peacekeeping efforts.

Clooney is the ninth U.N. messenger -- people chosen from the fields of art, music, literature and sports who have agreed to help focus attention on the United Nations' work.

Clooney, who is currently in Sudan, will receive his designation on January 31 at U.N. headquarters. The actor has been active in using his celebrity status, along with Don Cheadle and Brad Pitt, to raise money for refugees through their "Not On Our Watch" charity and draw attention to the crisis in Darfur in western Sudan.

Last month, he and Cheadle were honored by Nobel peace laureates in Rome for their efforts in Darfur.

The other U.N. messengers of peace are actor Michael Douglas, musicians Daniel Barenboim, Midori Goto and Yo-Yo Ma, authors Paulo Coelho and Elie Wiesel, naturalist Jane Goodall and Olympic equestrian Princess Haya of Jordan.

Not only is Clooney considered one of the hottest male stars, he's also an A-list celebrity, a good actor making great choices in films, and he's also politically-aware.

Wow, George Clooney is commendable! I'll vote for him :)
