New "Lara Croft" Film!

Is the world really ready for a new "Lara Croft" film? Have we already forgotten Angelina Jolie in the role?

Warner Bros. seem to think so, the studio is working with producer Dan Lin to reboot the "Tomb Raider" franchise!

Paramount previously created the first two films with Jolie, but their rights have expired, and Time Warner scooped the franchise back up!

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

The new project, however, is expected to revamp the character and her mission and bear little resemblance to the original pictures. It will reimagine the origins of the character, her love interest and the main villain.

No word yet on writer and director, and I feel pity for the actress going to be cast as Croft. She has pretty big shoes to fill!

Dakota Fanning Confirms "New Moon" Rumors!

This was THE story last week. Dakota Fanning was in talks to star as Jane, the Volturi vampire in the "Twilight" sequel, "New Moon."

This got me excited! I can totally picture her in the role!

Our friends from ShockTillYouDrop.com spoke with Fanning and confirmed the rumors.

She revealed:

"I really hope that works out," she says. "I think it's too soon to tell right now, but it'd be really fun. I'm a huge fan."

Too soon to tell? Oh please Miss Dakota, accept the part, and I heard that director Chris Weitz really, really want you too! So be Jane, and give the sequel some acting credibility :tongue

Fox Ready to Roll on "A-Team"

As we reported back in March of last year, there was a planned film about Hannibal Smith and his team of former special forces soldiers aka "The A-Team."

Back then we reported:

Twentieth Century Fox announced the "A-Team" film will be released on June 12, 2009.

It will be directed by John Singleton, from a script by writing partners Michael Brandt and Derek Haas ("Wanted," "3:10 to Yuma").

Now, the flick will be released on summer of 2010 with an impressive behind-the-scenes pedigree.

According to Variety,

Studio has set Joe Carnahan to direct and Ridley Scott to produce, with Tony Scott exec producing through their Scott Free banner.

Also producing are Jules Daly and Stephen J. Cannell, the latter of whom created the original TV series.

Carnahan will team with Brian Bloom to polish a script by Skip Woods ("G.I. Joe"). The intention is to start production by June for a June 11, 2010, release.

Wow! Carnahan and the two Scotts? This is a big deal!

But the question remains, why did Singleton drop out?

According to the new folks involved, they will use the original premise of the TV series -- four Vietnam vets convicted of armed robbery escape from military prison and became do-gooder mercenaries.

But of course, the Middle East is "hot" right now, so that locale will replace Vietnam.

Carnahan revealed:

"This was a coveted property, and reimagining a show that I remembered as a kid was tough to turn down," Carnahan said. "Fox hired me to make it as emotional, real and accessible as possible without cheesing it up."

I remember this show well, and I specially remember the Boy George and the Culture Club episode, am I silly? :happy

Two Battling Flicks About Steve McQueen

Two films about the iconic Steve McQueen are racing to the big screen!

Here's the comparison breakdown:

FIRST FILM

WORKING TITLE: "Steve McQueen: Portrait of an American Rebel"
PRODUCERS: Michael Cerenzie and Christine Peters
BASED ON: Marshall Terrill's biography of the same title
PROJECT WILL FOCUS ON: McQueen's career as well as his three marriages, including his stormy relationship with Ali McGraw, as well as his battle against lung cancer.
MCQUEEN CONNECTION: Barbara Minty, McQueen's widow, is collaborating with the producers

SECOND FILM

WORKING TITLE: "McQueen"
PRODUCER: David Foster
BASED ON: Memoir by McQueen's first wife, Neile McQueen Toffel called "My Husband, My Friend"
PROJECT WILL FOCUS ON: Relationship between Toffel and McQueen
MCQUEEN CONNECTION: Toffel, plus Foster used to be McQueen's publicist and he was also the producer of the actor's flick, "The Getaway"

Alright, both films have the blessings of McQueen's ex-wives, but the first film sound more intriguing -- drugs, fame, failed marriages! BUT, the second film has that "Walk the Line" vibe, about a young couple on their way to making their marks in pop culture!

So we'll see which one will get to the big screen first! Remember those failed attempts to make two separate films about Janis Joplin? Well, these flicks could follow the "failed" route, or one of them may actually succeed!

Stay tuned!
