The Importance of Satellite TV in Your Movie Watching! Check Out Upcoming Films, Interviews!

The concept of “new movies” is changing rapidly, as new films are moving from the theaters to your home screen more quickly than ever before. Largely thanks to premium satellite tv deals and special movie programs, you can often find movies available for home viewing only a few weeks after they landed in theaters to begin with. This is great for movie fans, as it has eliminated the impatient waiting time that used to separate movie and dvd releases. Now, when you look forward to a film hitting the theaters, you may as well already be looking forward to watching it at home! So, here are some of the hottest movies that will be hitting the screens early in 2012.

Red Tails – This film from producer George Lucas and director Anthony Hemingway tells the true story of a bold and unique group of African-American fighter pilots in World War II. At a time at which African-Americans in the U.S. military still faced a great deal of discrimination, this group of pilots – known as the Tuskegee Airmen – fought fearlessly in the air over the war, earning themselves hero status and impacting the war. The film features the likes of Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding, Jr. in a promising cast.

The Grey – This is a somewhat strange looking film, featuring Liam Neeson in the main role as the leader of a group of men whose plane has crashed in the northern wilderness of Alaska. Fans have come to love Neeson’s typical grit and ruggedness through films like Taken and Unknown, and this time around it seems the popular actor has run out of men to fight – now, he’s fighting wolves. This one should, if nothing else, be full of entertaining action. (Manny the Movie Guy has special upcoming interviews with the cast headed by Liam Neeson and director Joe Carnahan)

Man On A Ledge – Another early 2012 thriller, Man On A Ledge looks to follow in the path of movies like Phonebooth and Collateral, which feature people stuck in stagnant locations while trying to free themselves. In Man On A Ledge, Sam Worthington gets the starring role as Nick Cassidy, a wrongly accused diamond thief who climbs out onto a ledge high above New York City in and effort to prove his own innocence. Cassidy seeks to distract the city while his brother and others work to capture the man who framed Cassidy in the diamond theft. The Woman In Black – This is a crime/mystery movie that some have likened to a horror film, and which is starting to generate a lot of curiosity among fans. The film features a young lawyer who discovers that a village he has to work in is being haunted by a ghost seeking revenge for events from her life. The reason for the curiosity? Simple: The young lawyer is played by Daniel Radcliffe, in his first major cinematic role since bringing Harry Potter to life.

"The Artist" Dominates 2012 British Academy Film Awards! See Complete List of BAFTA Nominees!

Michel Hazanavicius' "The Artist" led the nominees of the 2012 Orange British Academy Film Awards. The Golden Globe-winning silent film received 12 nominations including Best Picture, Director, and Original Screenplay.

Tomas Alfredson's "Tinker Tailor Solder Spy" followed with 11 nods, Martin Scorsese's "Hugo" received 9, while "My Week with Marilyn" got 6, and "The Help" and "War Horse" each received 5 nominations.

"The Artist" was also honored for Original Music, Cinematography, Editing, Make Up & Hair, Costume Design, Sound and Production Design. Jean Dujardin received a Leading Actor nomination and his co-star, Bérénice Bejo was given a Leading Actress nod.

During the round one voting of the members of the British Academy, the BAFTA longlist was announced where "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" and "My Week with Marilyn" received 16 nods. Round two yielded official nominations where the two films gave way to "The Artist." (Check out the BAFTA longlist right here)

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" was relegated to its usual categories -- Make Up & Hair, Production Design, Sound and Special Visual Effects.

Winners of the Orange British Academy Film Awards will be revealed on Sunday, February 12th at the Royal Opera House. The ceremony will be hosted by Stephen Fry, with the red carpet coverage presented by Edith Bowman.

Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Adore "Weekend," Meryl Streep, Michael Fassbender! Check Out Full List of Dorian Awards Winners!

The Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association (GALECA), of which I'm a proud voting member, has announced the winners for the best in film and television of 2011. Taking the top spot at the Dorian Awards is Andrew Haigh's daring gay film "Weekend" which won Film of the Year!

Meryl Streep was given the Film Performance of the Year award for her Golden Globe-winning portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady." Michael Fassbender received the We're Wilde About You Rising Star of the Year for his raw, emotional performance in "Shame" and for being awesome in everything he starred in in 2011 (he's the male equivalent of Jessica Chastain)!

A celebratory toast will be held Sunday, February 19 in Los Angeles.
