James Franco is in early talks to join "Oz, the Great and Powerful" according to The Hollywood Reporter. It's Disney's attempt to ride "The Wizard of Oz" bandwagon with director Sam Raimi.
Once upon a time, the great and powerful Oz role was set for Robert Downey Jr. until he quit two and a half weeks ago. Then, Johnny Depp stepped in but eventually passed as well.
So now, Franco is the latest contender. And I think he can be a good choice, have you seen his Oscar-nominated turn in "127 Hours?" He is remarkable! (Check out my interview with Franco and director Danny Boyle for "127 Hours" right here)
The part calls for a young illusionist who is forced to flee a traveling circus. We know where he turns up -- to the land of Oz which is run by two magical witches! This is sort of a prequel to "The Wizard of Oz." If Elphaba can get her own story told in "Wicked," so can Oz, gosh darn it!
So will Franco return to the loving arms of Raimi who directed him in the "Spider-Man" films? Stay tuned...

First, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are adapting "Dark Tower," then it was "The Stand," now it's "Pet Sematary." Stephen King is being embraced by Hollywood again! Yay!
As we told you in March of last year (check out Get Buried in "Pet Sematary" Again!), Paramount has hired "1408" writer, Matthew Greenberg, to resurrect "Pet Sematary" with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Steven Schneider producing.
Now, Steven Zeitchik of the LA Times revealed that:
Matthew Greenberg, the writer of "1408" (also based on a King work), is set to turn in his script for a new version of the tale, according to a person briefed on the project who was not authorized to speak about it publicly. And executives at studio Paramount have put out the word to at least two representatives in the agent community that they are seeking a high-level director to tackle the material. (Paramount declined comment.)
See? Stephen King's material will always be resurrected.

Everybody's in on this whole "Snow White" game. Two competing films based on the popular fairy tale will go on production soon! First, we have Relativity Media's "The Brothers Grimm: Snow White." Tarsem Singh ("The Cell," "The Fall") is attached to direct, and Vulture is reporting that Julia Roberts is in talks to play the Evil Queen! That's intriguing right?
Then, we also have Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman." This is a re-imagining of the "Snow White" tale and "Twilight's" Kristen Stewart is negotiating to play Snow White (perfect!). Charlize Theron is also in talks to play the Evil Queen, and Viggo Mortensen to star as the Huntsman. I'm intrigued by this project too!
