Two weeks ago, we were very excited to report that Joaquin Phoenix was inching closer to joining Timur Bekmambetov's "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" project. (See Will Joaquin Phoenix Return to Acting in "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter?")
Now, the Hollywood Reporter is saying that Bekmambetov has decided to go in a different director in terms of casting lesser-known stars (keyword: there's no big budget set for big name stars).
So Fox and Bekmambetov decided to negotiate with actor Dominic Cooper in the role of Henry Sturges, Lincoln's mentor who trains him how to fight the undead. They are in final negotiations for the "Mamma Mia!" star to join Benjamin Walker (Lincoln).
I wished Fox and Bekmambetov pursued Phoenix more! I would have loved to see the actor work in a film with a gothic twist (no silly, M. Night Shyamalan's "The Village" doesn't count!).

"Die Hard 4" sucked...hard! We didn't like it, and the film didn't really make box-office history. So why make a fifth installment? Does Bruce Willis need more work?
Now, Twentieth Century Fox has announced that they've hired Noam Murro to direct "Die Hard 5" and Willis will yippeekayay his way back to his John McClane role.
Murro is an interesting choice since he hasn't made a big, action movie before. He came from the commercial directing world and has been nominated five times for the DGA's director of the year award for his advertising projects. His foray into feature filmmaking was Miramax's "Smart People."
Skip Woods, the scribe who gave us previous Fox films such as "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and "The A-Team" is writing the script.
All I'm saying is that I hope the combo-team of Murro and Woods will be successful in reigniting the last flame of the "Die Hard" franchise.

Against the ominous back-drop of post-Civil War Washington, newly-minted lawyer, Frederick Aiken, a 28-year-old Union war-hero, reluctantly agrees to defend Surratt before a military tribunal. Aiken realizes his client may be innocent and that she is being used as bait and hostage in order to capture the only conspirator to have escaped a massive manhunt, her own son, John. We all love the original starring Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli and the incomparable Sir John Gielgud! But this new version starring Russell Brand, Jennifer Garner, and Helen Mirren actually looks interesting! We'll see if Warner Bros. and first-time director Jason Winer can match the brilliance of the original when the film is released April 8th.

But in the end, the crux of the "X-Men" movies is the relationship between Magneto and Professor X, and two great actors are playing the roles namely Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy.
