"Waiting to Exhale" Sequel to Move Forward Even Without Whitney Houston

Fox has announced that the studio will move forward with the sequel to "Waiting to Exhale" even without Whitney Houston. How heartless and untimely right?

But according to Elizabeth Gabler, president of Fox 2000 Pictures, talking to Vulture, that the studio is moving forward with the sequel to the hit 1995 ensemble drama because "It's almost in her honor that we think to soldier on." Really? Why not just make "The Bodyguard" sequel then!

So while we're all remembering the life of Whitney Houston, Fox wants a new way to capitalize. The original film based on Terry McMillan's novel starred Houston as a TV producer who was in love with a married man. Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, and Gregory Hines co-starred and Forest Whitaker directed the movie.

Whitaker will return to direct but it's still unclear whether the studio will ask the other cast members to reprise their roles. "Getting to Happy," McMillan's follow-up to "Waiting to Exhale," was released on September 7, 2010. Fox is courting a bunch of writers to adapt the sequel.

We Told You So -- "Maleficent" Will Be Angelina Jolie's Next Film!

Back in May of 2009, we broke the story that Angelina Jolie was being courted by Disney to star as the wicked witch "Maleficent" in the planned retelling of "Sleeping Beauty" tale. (See EXCLUSIVE: Angelina Jolie to Star as Disney's Greatest Villain Maleficent!)

Back then, my super-reliable source revealed to me that Brad Bird was attached to write and direct the project. Well, so many incarnations of the story later (Tim Burton was supposed to direct, then David O. Russell), now, the project is getting traction with the hiring of Robert Stromberg. Coming from the production designer ranks (he helped shape the look of "Avatar" and "Alice in Wonderland", are you impress yet?), "Maleficent" will be Stromberg's first full-feature film, so be cautious. He may rock it, for all we know!

But Jolie seems to be excited. Talking at a press conference at the Berlin International Film Festival, the actress said "I haven't acted in two years, and I haven't done anything else since this [Land of Blood and Honey]. The next thing I am looking at is a Disney movie." So yay! (SOURCE: Hollywood Reporter)

The actress seemed to be making this "Maleficent" decision at the urging of her kids who even called her "mom-elicent."

I said it before and I'll say it again -- Jolie, in a "Wicked" kind of storytelling, is perfect for the role of "Maleficent." The wicked witch may just be as under-appreciated and misunderstood as Elphaba.

Are You Excited for 'Transformers 4?"

You better be, because director Michael Bay has announced that his giant robots will invade theaters on June 29, 2014. Bay just signed a two-picture deal with Paramount, and one of those films will be the fourth installment of the mega-hit "Transformers" franchise. The other movie will be a bodybuilding flick starring Mark Wahlberg called "Pain and Gain" which will hit theaters before "Transformers 4."

What's exciting about the new "Transformers" is that it's going to be a reboot. Since Shia LaBeouf swore to never utter the name Bumblebee again, at least on the big screen, Bay, along with his returning producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Don Murphy, Tom DeSanto, and Ian Bryce, alluded that the fourth "Transformers" will be a reboot but will also be a continuation of the story we saw in the first three movies. Story? Was there any story in those movies? HA!

Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner, and Mark Vahradian will be back to executive produce. Now, Bay and company have 2 1/2 years to make the new "Transformers" the best of the series. We know the formula by now -- the robots have more human-like qualities, the actors become cartoons, put explosions here, then make them travel through various cities, states, and countries, then put more explosions, the end. That's the sad formula of any "Transformers" movie, so the first edict should be to create a captivating story worthy of the iconic robots!
