American Society of Cinematographers Hail "The Tree of Life!"

The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) chose Emmanuel Lubezki's work on Terrence Malick's "The Tree of Life" as the best of 2011 and won the ASC Awards! This was the second time Lubezki won the award with 2006's "Children of Men" as his first. BUT, the cinematographer has not won an Oscar yet despite 5 nominations! But there may be hope. Wally Pfister won the ASC award last year for Christopher Nolan's "Inception" and took home the Oscar as well!

Here's the complete list of the winners of the American Society of Cinematographers Awards (for a complete list of winners/nominees of other award-giving bodies, visit our Awards Avenue coverage right here)

We Will Always Love Whitney Houston and Will See Her Upcoming Movie "Sparkle!'

Adele might have dominated the 2012 Grammys but the solemn spirit of Whitney Houston's untimely death marked the festivities. I grew up loving her songs in the 80s, humming to "I Will Always Love You" in the 90s, and even watching her movies throughout the decade such as "The Bodyguard" and "Waiting to Exhale." And in the 2000s, I was aghast at her rapid downfall marked by her appearance in "Being Bobby Brown."

But in August 17th of this year, Houston will once again take the center stage with her final film performance in Sony's "Sparkle." The studio has revealed that they will release the film as planned. Starring Jordin Sparks, the remake of the 1976 movie starring Irene Cara chronicles the rise of an all-girl singing group similar to the Supremes.

Houston plays the mother of three daughters who launch a singing group and according to the Hollywood Reporter, she "has a big gospel number, the classic "Eyes on the Sparrow" and duets with Sparks on a new R. Kelly song, "Celebrate," over the end credits."

We will watch "Sparkle" on August 17th to pay homage to the voice!
