UPDATE: NO MORE QUESTION MARK! Third "Twilight" Director is Juan Antonio Bayona!

It was loud and clear, almost certain, that Drew Barrymore might be directing the third "Twilight" installment, "Eclipse."

But that was last week.

This week, the name Juan Antonio Bayona is one of the stronger finalists being considered to direct the threequel. the chosen one! Bayona is directing "Eclipse!"

Who is he? Bayona is considered a horror wunderkind and a protege by Guillermo Del Toro. He created a creative, intriguing, excellent Spanish horror film in 2007 called "El Orfanato" ("The Orphanage").

I loved what Bayona did in that film! He twisted supernatural notions to come up with a thought-provoking movie about love and loss!

And I think, the "Twilight" franchise will benefit greatly with Bayona's addition! He knows the genre, he can create mood and atmosphere, yet Bayona can instill heart in the project!

So go for it Summit Entertainment, hire him!
Summit hired him, and is expected to make an official statement soon!

Here's what I thought about "The Orphanage" when it was shown at the Palm Springs International Film Festival!

And here's the full "The Orphanage" trailer!

"Race to Witch Mountain" Movie Review -- Is It Better than the Original?

The 1975 Walt Disney classic “Escape to Witch Mountain” is the touchstone of my youth. The film made me want to have the super powers of the two alien children, Tia (Kim Richards) and Tony (Iake Eisenmann) for the good of humanity, of course.

Now, Walt Disney Pictures is releasing a reboot of the film bearing a more fast-paced title “Race to Witch Mountain.” The plot and the children’s names may have been changed, but the magic is still intact. Read More...

New Details About Joss Whedon's Scary Flick "The Cabin in the Woods"

This is what we know so far about "The Cabin in the Woods":

1) Joss Whedon wrote the script, and Drew Goddard ("Buffy," "Angel," "Lost") will be directing

2) Academy award nominee Richard Jenkins ("The Visitor") joins the cast, as well as Bradley Whitford ("Bottle Shock").

3) New cast announced are Kristen Connolly ("Revolutionary Road"), Chris Hemsworth ("Star Trek"), Anna Hutchison ("Underbelly"), Fran Kranz ("The Village") and Jesse Williams ("The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2").

4) The film's opening date has been moved from October 23rd to February 5th

5) UA/MGM will distribute

But the most important part? The plot? Whedon, Goddard, and the studio are tight-lipped. All we know is there's a cabin in the woods, and then...mayhem!

Will You Watch "Puppetmaster" on 3-D?

I'm the first to admit that I crave these low-budget horror flicks! I'm a child of the 80s and devoured everything from "Friday the 13th" to yes, "Puppetmaster."

To this day, when any of these films are being shown on cable, I have to stop and watch, and I truly admit, even TIVO some of them!

But am I happy with the recent "reboot" all these shocker flicks are getting? Um, not really. Sure, Rob Zombie did a great job with "Halloween" but I love his "Devil's Rejects" better. Why? Because it's original!

Am I happy with the new "Friday the 13th?" Well, I was happy to see Jason Voorhees on the big screen again, but the remake was underwhelming.

So today, in my horror of horrors, I heard that writer/producer Charles Band is planning to give his "Puppetmaster" the reboot treatment! And he's following the "My Bloody Valentine" route and shoot it in 3-D!

Why? Can't Hollywood be original anymore? Specially when it comes to the horror genre? Slapping the "3-D" treatment on any remake doesn't make it brand new!

Oh wait, Joss Whedon is coming up with "Cabin in the Woods," and Sam Raimi has "Drag Me to Hell" coming up.

So there's still hope!
