UPDATE: WRITERS FOR "STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON" -- Gangsta Rap Gets Legitimized on the Big Screen! Biopic About N.W.A. in the Works! Oh, and "Dolemite" Remake as well!

The iconic N.W.A. introduced gangsta rap to the world and we got to discover the likes of Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Easy E, and MC Ren in the process. And their definitive album, Straight Outta Compton, changed the musical landscape forever.

Now, New Line is developing an urban drama about N.W.A. to be called..."Straight Outta Compton." According to EW, "the project will chronicle the rise and fall of the rap quarter."

Ice Cube and Dr. Dre are among the film's producers, as well as Eazy-E's widow, Tomica Wright. They're actively looking for a director ala Curtis Hanson ("8 Mile". Great plan, but who's writing the script? 'Cause you know, it all begins with the written word.

UPDATE: My source told me that the script is written by Leigh Savidge and Alan Wenkus. They "did a lot of research, interviewed many people and worked closely with New Line and Eazy E's widow Tomica to get all the facts right."

The writing duo is "also writing a big screen remake of the 1970's black action film 'Dolemite.'"

And I promised I won't divulge my source BUT they gave me love :happy

They said, "We love your site and wanted to answer your question about the writers. You're right...it is all starts with the written word."

"Anyway, keep up the good work!"

Yay! "Straight Outta Compton" and "Dolemite!"

UPDATE: NO MORE QUESTION MARK! Third "Twilight" Director is Juan Antonio Bayona!

It was loud and clear, almost certain, that Drew Barrymore might be directing the third "Twilight" installment, "Eclipse."

But that was last week.

This week, the name Juan Antonio Bayona is one of the stronger finalists being considered to direct the threequel. the chosen one! Bayona is directing "Eclipse!"

Who is he? Bayona is considered a horror wunderkind and a protege by Guillermo Del Toro. He created a creative, intriguing, excellent Spanish horror film in 2007 called "El Orfanato" ("The Orphanage").

I loved what Bayona did in that film! He twisted supernatural notions to come up with a thought-provoking movie about love and loss!

And I think, the "Twilight" franchise will benefit greatly with Bayona's addition! He knows the genre, he can create mood and atmosphere, yet Bayona can instill heart in the project!

So go for it Summit Entertainment, hire him!
Summit hired him, and is expected to make an official statement soon!

Here's what I thought about "The Orphanage" when it was shown at the Palm Springs International Film Festival!

And here's the full "The Orphanage" trailer!

"Race to Witch Mountain" Movie Review -- Is It Better than the Original?

The 1975 Walt Disney classic “Escape to Witch Mountain” is the touchstone of my youth. The film made me want to have the super powers of the two alien children, Tia (Kim Richards) and Tony (Iake Eisenmann) for the good of humanity, of course.

Now, Walt Disney Pictures is releasing a reboot of the film bearing a more fast-paced title “Race to Witch Mountain.” The plot and the children’s names may have been changed, but the magic is still intact. Read More...

New Details About Joss Whedon's Scary Flick "The Cabin in the Woods"

This is what we know so far about "The Cabin in the Woods":

1) Joss Whedon wrote the script, and Drew Goddard ("Buffy," "Angel," "Lost") will be directing

2) Academy award nominee Richard Jenkins ("The Visitor") joins the cast, as well as Bradley Whitford ("Bottle Shock").

3) New cast announced are Kristen Connolly ("Revolutionary Road"), Chris Hemsworth ("Star Trek"), Anna Hutchison ("Underbelly"), Fran Kranz ("The Village") and Jesse Williams ("The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2").

4) The film's opening date has been moved from October 23rd to February 5th

5) UA/MGM will distribute

But the most important part? The plot? Whedon, Goddard, and the studio are tight-lipped. All we know is there's a cabin in the woods, and then...mayhem!
