It may sound like a remake of "Clash of the Titans" but this new film has a more contemporary take on Greek gods and goddesses. FOX 2000 has just assembled a cast for their fantasy adventure "Percy Jackson."
So Miss Uma is playing Medusa (I always love this fierce character) while Pierce Brosnan is going to play Chiron the Centaur.
Sean Bean ("Lord of the Rings" franchise) is playing Zeus!
Other members of the cast are Kevin McKidd ("Hannibal Rising") will play Poseidon and Melina Kanakerides ("CSI: NY") is joining as Athena.
Chris Columbus (the first two "Harry Potter" films) is attached to direct.
According to Variety:
Story centers on Poseidon's 12-year-old half-human son, who embarks on a quest across modern-day America to save his mother, return Zeus' stolen lightning bolt and prevent a deadly war between the gods.
Interesting, albeit very Harry Potter-ish with Greek gods this time.
The production is set to begin next month for a possible release date of February 2010.
Oh, and actors listen up! The studio is still looking to cast Aries, Hades, and Persephone!

Okay, the romantic comedy has no title yet. But previously, it's known as "Wichita" and Trouble Man." Now, James Mangold ("Walk the Line," "3:10 to Yuma") is attached to direct with a possible romantic pairing of Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. Scott Frank ("Marley & Me," "Minority Report") is writing the script.
Cruise may play a mysterious man who guides an unlucky-in-love woman he met on a blind date. That unlucky-in-love woman role may be played by Diaz.
The pair appeared together in 2001's "Vanilla Sky" and can reignite their chemistry with this romantic comedy.

The graphic novel "The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft" is not coming out until April 8 but Universal and Imagine Entertainment are already planning a film version of the comic book!
It's not finalize yet but Ron Howard may be directing the film.
The plot? According to Variety:
Created by Mac Carter and Jeff Blitz, book borrows elements from Lovecraft’s life, such as his family’s struggle with mental illness and his own bouts with writer’s block, and transforms the young writer’s darkest nightmares into reality when he comes across a book that puts a curse on him and lets the evils he conjures up loose on the world.
Ooooh, it's like a scary version of "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" where fictional characters converge.

As we reported last year, MGM is getting ready to produce a big screen film featuring "The Three Stooges." This Farrelly Brothers film (they wrote the script, and will also direct and produce) will not be a biopic, but more along the lines of the Stooges' characters doing their antics as popularized on TV and film.
So far, the studio has set Sean Penn to play Larry.
MGM is also negotiating with Jim Carrey to star as Curly! According to Variety, "the actor is already making plans to gain 40 pounds to approximate the physical dimensions of Jerome "Curly" Howard."
And the studio is putting Benicio Del Toro on top of their wish list to play Moe!
This is an intriguing cast! Serious actors working in a comedy. The result can either be golden or disastrous. But both Penn and Del Toro have worked in a comedy flick before.
Penn in the so-so 1989 film "We're No Angels" with Robert DeNiro, while Del Toro showed his comedic chops in "Snatch."
But the biggest surprise is Carrey to play Curly. Hopefully, his performance will far exceed his planned weight gain!
By the way, Johnny Depp was once upon a time rumored to play Moe.
Production is set to start in the fall with the film's release date sometime in 2010.
Let's go and do the Curly shuffle!
