Should You See "John Carter?" Check Out My Movie Review First!
And here you go, my movie review of "John Carter" starring Taylor Kitsch in the title role from director Andrew Stanton, the guy who gave us "Finding Nemo" and "Wall-E." How did Stanton do in his first foray into the world of live action? What about Kitsch? Check out how many kisses the movie gets! (For my newspaper review of "John Carter," click here)

Oh, and if you like my "John Carter" t-shirt I was wearing on this review, have no fear! I'm giving that away, a new T-shirt of course, very, very soon!

HAVE FUN!

Angelina Jolie's "Maleficent" to Start Shooting in June!

Whew, after three years in the planning stages, it's finally coming true! Back in May 2009, I was proud to say that we broke this news that Angelina Jolie will star as "Maleficent." Back then, it was attached with director Brad Bird. And yes, a little Disney friend of mine was the one who gave me the tip! (See EXCLUSIVE: Angelina Jolie to Star as Disney's Greatest Villain Maleficent!)

Then it was supposed to be Tim Burton who was set to helm, but now, Robert Stromberg will direct from a script by Linda Woolverton. THR said that the director is already in the U.K. to prepare for the film. Why? Because "Maleficent" will begin shooting in June! It's about time!

I think that the "Wicked" narrative style of telling the story from the villain's point-of-view is fantastic! The character of the "Sleeping Beauty" villain will have a new, dynamic arc.

So who will play Aurora aka Sleeping Beauty? Well, the lovely and talented Elle Fanning is in talks to join the cast and I love it! I just adore Miss Fanning and she will be perfect as the beauty who is forced to sleep for a very long time by the evil Maleficent. (Check out my interviews with Elle Fanning for "Somewhere" here, or for "Super 8" right here)

It's kinda timely that after Jolie revealed that she wanted to do a Disney movie and that her kids were starting to call her "Mom-elicent," then the news that "Maleficent" is shooting in June progressed.

But I am happy. I can eat the poisonous apple now!

Tom Hardy -- Outlaw Biker

Tom Hardy, who I absolutely admired in "Warrior" and will next be seen as Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises," is attached to star in an untitled outlaw biker for Warner Bros. according to THR.

It's a role fit for Hardy right?

The actor seemed to agree because he's also producing the project via his own shingle Executive Options. Art Linson and son, John, are co-producing with Hardy. Apparently, the younger Linson is an avid biker and he came up with the story of a "wounded Vietnem vet who returns home to San Francisco just in time to see the flower power hippie movement at it strongest, with anti-war protests hitting university campuses and streets. In that environment, he is reborn as the head of a violent biker gang."

Ooooh, Hardy is a wild one!

Coming to Theaters -- How Nicolas Cage Got His Comic Book Back!

This actually sounds funny, and perhaps the first Nicholas Cage-connected movie that I'm excited about in a looooong time!

Previously on Nicholas Cage's comic book caper: In 2000, a group of nerds planned to steal the actor's prized possession -- a copy of Action Comics No. 1 which introduced us to Superman aka Man of Steel.

Then in 2011, the missing comic book was discovered in an abandoned storage locker. Voila, it sold for a record $2.1 million at an auction last November.

Now, THR has told us that Lionsgate is turning this comic book heist into a comedy with "Reno 911" creators/writers Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon. They will also be producing along with Peter Principato and Paul Young.

The big question -- will Cage appear? Will he be game to poke fun at himself and his inner nerd? I think he should! He hasn't done a seemingly smart movie in quite a while.

And sure, Jason Statham's name has popped up in connection with this project but really, he is no Cage!

Sorry "Halloween" Fans, 3D Film Slashed from Calendar

"Halloween 3D" is dead...at least for now.

Dimension Films has announced that "Halloween 3D" will not be ready in time for its planned Oct. 26 release, so it's been hacked and slashed away from the calendar.

Writer/director Patrick Lussier and writer Todd Farmer, the folks who gave us 2009's "My Bloody Valentine" and 2011's "Drive Angry" have been working on "Halloween 3D" but just couldn't make it on time.

Why? Is it really too hard to revive Michael Myers and make him kill a bunch of people in 3D? Kill, cue in the famous "Halloween" music, kill some more, rinse, lather, repeat...right?

But alas, you won't see "Halloween 3D" this Halloween.

So more "Paranormal Activity 4" for you!
