"Chronicle" Director to Develop "Red Star' Movie

I thoroughly enjoyed "Chronicle" so I was very happy to find out that the director, Josh Trank, is developing to direct "The Red Star" for Warner Bros. according to Deadline. This one's an adaptation of a graphic novel with a healthy set of 4 volumes! The script will be written by Jason Rothenberg and the film will be produced by Neal Moritz. Since "Chronicle" surprised everyone, Trank has been in-demand including talks to reboot "Fantastic Four" for Fox and the "Spider-Man" spinoff, "Venom," for Sony.

So what is "Red Star" all about? According to its Wiki page:

The Red Star is a comic book series by Christian Gossett set in a sci-fi/fantasy world described by Gossett as "Mythic [Soviet] Russia". The "Lands of The Red Star" were inspired by both Russian folklore and military history. The series is thus heavily reminiscent of a post-World War II Soviet Russia mixing technology and sorcery.

The 'United Republics of the Red Star', often simply called the
'State' in the comic, are shown to be coterminous with the historical Soviet Union in a map at the beginning of the first issue. The main enemy of the first novels, Al'Istaan, is a stand-in for historical Afghanistan and occupies a similar area of the map.

Technology and sorcery? Intriguing!

See Red Band Trailer of "Piranha 3DD!" It's All About the Double Ds!
The first "Piranha" remake starring Elisabeth Shue was campy at best (oh look at the chomped pee-pee!) and this latest fish-out-of-water (HA!) tale is pretty much more of the same. You just can't take these movies seriously anymore, but then again, the filmmakers don't want you to. It is directed by John Gulager from a screenplay by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. The best part about this latest incarnation is not the Double D part, although some may enjoy it, but it's David Hasselhoff channeling his "Baywatch" duties. This one is more like a jaded take of his "Baywatch" character, Mitch Buchannon. Ving Rhames, meanwhile, channels Rose McGowan in "Grindhouse" with his one-legged fighter who has a shotgun for a leg! "Piranha 3DD" is dripping in cheese and camp and sometimes, cheese and camp can be fun! We'll see when it opens on June 1st.

Now remember, the trailer is Red Band so beware!

From Paris to Rome, Woody Allen's Latest Film Takes Us to Another European City of Love!

"Midnight in Paris" was a critical and commercial success for Woody Allen and it even received some much-deserved Oscar love so Sony Pictures Classics has announced that the director's latest film, previously known as "Nero Fiddled," is now officially titled "To Rome with Love."

According to the Sony Pictures Classics press release, the name change is due to the "homage to the eternal city of Rome where the film was shot on location last summer. This will be used for its worldwide release. The film’s former title, Nero Fiddled, while an appropriate and humorous phrase in the U.S., is not a familiar expression overseas and many international territories preferred a more globally understood name."

Great point, but lackluster title! Come on, can't they be more creative than "To Rome with Love?" How about "Three Coins in the Fountain?" HA!

Much like Allen's films, "To Rome with Love" tells the stories of different folks in Italy -- some American, some Italian, some tourists, some residents -- and the romances and adventures they face.

The film is set to open on June 22 and it stars Allen, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Page.

"Snow White & the Huntsman" -- See Hot, New Trailer
Unlike the upcoming campy "Mirror Mirror," this one is decidedly a more serious take on the "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" fable. Oscar-winner Charlize Theron ("Monster," "Young Adult") embodies the evil Queen while Kristen Stewart ("Twilight" films) plays Snow White and Chris Hemsworth ("Thor") stars as the Huntsman.

We'll see if Rupert Sanders' directorial debut is magical when Universal releases "Snow White & the Huntsman" on June 1st.

Here's the trailer:

Watch "Prometheus" Extended Trailer! Ridley Scott Pays Homage to His Own "Alien!"
I can't wait to see "Prometheus," Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel starring Charlize Theron ("Young Adult," "Monster"), Michael Fassbender ("Shame," "X-Men: First Class"), Noomi Rapace ("Sherlock Holmes 2," original "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"), and Patrick Wilson ("Young Adult," "Insidious").

Fox released the extended trailer and this one pays homage to "Alien." Sure, the annoying "Inception"-like horn is still there, but I can't wait to see this movie when it opens on June 8.

Here's the extended trailer for "Prometheus":
