"Fast & Furious" opened huge! $72.5 million huge! Better than last weekend's $59.3 million debut of "Monsters vs. Aliens." The Vin Diesel-Paul Walker testosterone adventure has the biggest opening of the year, so far.
It wasn't my pick of the week, and actually, it wasn't the best of the series, but apparently movie buffs miss their Diesel and Walker, so more power to you! My pick of the week was "Superbad's" Greg Mottola's "Adventureland" starring "Twilight's" Kristen Stewart. That film only made $6 million, but not bad for a small budget picture.
Meanwhile, the DreamWorks Animations flick slipped to No. 2 with $33.5 million, BUT, "Monsters vs. Aliens'" 10-day total is now up to $105.7 million.
Oh, by the way, "Fast & Furious" by Universal also sped past the previous No. 1 film opening in the month of April. The action flick left "Anger Management" in the dust which opened at $42.2.
"The Haunting in Connecticut" slipped to No. 3 with $9.6 million. But the interesting story at the box-office this weekend is the entry of "Sunshine Cleaning." The small film starring Emily Blunt and Amy Adams sold $1.9 million in ticket sales! So thanks for patronizing lovely, indie flicks!
Here's the Top 10 Box-Office films for weekend of April 3rd:
1. "Fast & Furious," $72.5 million.
2. "Monsters vs. Aliens," $33.5 million.
3. "The Haunting in Connecticut," $9.6 million.
4. "Knowing," $8.1 million.
5. "I Love You, Man," $7.9 million.
6. "Adventureland," $6 million.
7. "Duplicity," $4.3 million.
8. "Race to Witch Mountain," $3.4 million.
9. "12 Rounds," $2.3 million.
10. "Sunshine Cleaning," $1.9 million.

Zac Efron Reveals Why He's Not Starring in "Footloose" Remake PLUS What I Think About His Upcoming Film "17 Again"
Zac Efron says he dropped out of "Footloose" because of the "unknown." Meaning, the "High School Musical" star wants to take his career into unknown territories to prove his mettle as an actor.
Good for him! He wants to show to the world he's just not a singing and dancing matinee idol.
The 21-year old actor was set to take on the role that made Kevin Bacon a household name, then surprised everyone by dropping out.
At first, it was being blamed for script revisions, but now we know why. Efron reveals to Entertainment Weekly, "I'm sure Footloose would have been a huge challenge, but the actors that I love and the actors that work really hard in this industry are always shaking things up, trying new genres, acquiring new skill sets. That's what's always going to appeal to me: the unknown."
So does that mean that his upcoming film "17 Again" will be one of the last accessible movies that Efron will star in?
I will interview Efron so maybe I'll ask him the question.
Speaking of "17 Again," I just got back from the screening, and let me tell ya, sure, there are hints of "Big" and "Back to the Future," but I laughed out loud and the chemistry of the actors are commendable!
And yes folks, Efron can act, and can go from comedy to drama without missing a beat! Watch this film when it comes out April 17.
I'll post my review and interviews with the cast of "17 Again" soon, promise!

After months of pleading, fans campaigning for Jackie Earle Haley to be Freddy Krueger in the reboot of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" can now rest easy. Haley is going to play the iconic boogeyman.
As we reported last month, when asked about the "Elm Street" rumors, Haley said, he's curious. Well, apparently, the "Watchmen" star is curious no longer!
Michael Bay is producing with his Platinum Dunes partners, and Samuel Bayer will direct from a script by Wesley Strick (he wrote the "Cape Fear" remake for Martin Scorsese in 1991).
Shooting will begin next month in Chicago!

So I received a press release about the new film featuring the lovely Jenna Jameson. Last year she did the quasi-horror but ultra-campy "Zombie Strippers," this year, she's doing comedy in "How to Make Love to a Woman."
The producers just posted the trailer of the film which also stars "Lost's" Ian Somerhalder and Krysten Ritter from "Confessions of a Shopaholic."
You can see the footage right here.
And here's the full press release for Jameson fans
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOS ANGELES, CA April 3, 2009 – Now you can SEE the most talked about comedy of the year. There’s footage online of How to Make Love to a Woman starring Krysten Ritter (Confessions of a Shopaholic), Josh Meyers (That ‘70s Show, MADtv), Ian Somerhalder (Lost), Ken Jeong (Knocked Up, Pineapple Express), James Kyson Lee (Heroes), James Hong (Balls of Fury) and featuring Jenna Jameson in her first comedic performance.
The producers have posted footage to the movie’s Official site, www.INeedSexAdvice.com
How To is produced by Sheri Bryant and Adam Lawson, written by Dennis Kao and helmed by music video director Scott Culver in his feature debut. It’s also the feature film acting debut of Ludo’s Andrew Volpe. The music party doesn’t stop there: a handful of today’s most popular rock acts perform in the picture, including Saosin and hellogoodbye; and featuring music by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Jack’s Mannequin.
Josh Meyers plays a successful career man who can’t bring his girlfriend, played by Krysten Ritter, to orgasm. The extent to which he goes in order to unlock the mystery of female pleasure is mind-blowing: and trust us, he tries every trick in the book. Does he succeed? And can this wild cast of characters around him, including the world’s most famous adult film star, help … or will they just cause more damage? For anyone who has ever wondered what makes a girl … eh hem … smile, it’s a must-see.
