Get Ready for "Fright Night" Remake! Anton Yelchin in Talks, "Lars and the Real Girl" Director to Helm

Anton Yelchin portrayed Chekov in "Star Trek" and starred as Kyle Reese in "Terminator Salvation," now, the actor is in negotiations to play Charlie Brewster in "Fright Night," DreamWorks' remake of the 1985 vampire movie.

Craig Gillespie, the guy who gave us "Lars and the Real Girl," is directing the new version. "Lars" talks about a guy who believes his sex doll is a real girl, while "Fright Night" revolves around a teen who's convinced that his new neighbor is a vampire, but no one will believe him.

Gillespie will be directing from a script written by Marti Noxon who's familiar with exploring the vampire territory having produced and written episodes for the fantastic "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" TV show.

For now, let's look at the original "Fright Night" trailer and imagine Yelchin playing the Brewster character which was originally played by William Ragsdale. Oh yeah, and who will replace the late, great Roddy McDowall?

"Clash of the Titans" Rules Box-Office with $61.4 Million Debut!

The remake of "Clash of the Titans" is the new ruler of the box-office! Directed by Louis Leterrier and starring Sam Worthington, "Clash of the Titans" debuted at No. 1 with $61.4 million. If you factor in its Thursday night preview screenings, the film's total is $64.1 million. Not bad for a film that didn't quite match the magic of the original. (Check out my "Clash of the Titans" movie review right here)

And more proof that Tyler Perry films are critics-proof, "Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too?" opened at No. 2 with $30.2 million! The film was not shown to critics. Come to think of it, Lionsgate hasn't shown a Tyler Perry film in advance to critics in a very long time! Well, can you blame them? The studio does not need critics to open a Tyler Perry film. Most of his films are lackadaisically plotted and written, but people love them! So, to avoid box-office poison, Lionsgate wisely avoids critics. The last time I saw a Perry film in advance was "Madea Goes to Jail." I even interviewed the director for the film, check it out right here.

"How to Train Your Dragon," the year's first best-reviewed film, fell down to No. 3 from the top spot. But have no fear folks, the fantastic animated film ran a very close third with $29.2 million, and so far, has raised its 10-day total to $92.3 million. I love this movie! (Check out my movie review right here, and my interviews with Jay Baruchel, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, and writers/director Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois)

Meanwhile, the pitchy "The Last Song" starring a "grown-up" Miley Cyrus debuted at No. 4 with $16.2 million for the weekend. If you add its ticket sales since it opened Wednesday, the film's total is $25.6 million. It's a Nicholas Sparks film, and you can pretty much predict what's going to happen. Cliches and formulas abound!

Here's the estimated list of the Top 10 box-office films for the weekend of April 2nd:

1. "Clash of the Titans," $61.4 million.
2. "Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too?", $30.2 million.
3. "How to Train Your Dragon," $29.2 million.
4. "The Last Song," $16.2 million.
5. "Alice in Wonderland," $8.3 million.
6. "Hot Tub Time Machine," $8 million.
7. "The Bounty Hunter," $6.2 million.
8. "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," $5.5 million.
9. "She's Out of My League," $1.463 million.
10. "Shutter Island," $1.462 million.

Who's Playing "Captain America's" Sidekick Bucky Barnes?

Sebastian Stan is going to play Captain America's sidekick Bucky Barnes in Marvel's "Captain America" starring Chris Evans in the title role. Stan is one of the actors who tested for the Captain America role that eventually went to Evans.

Stan starred in NBC's "Kings," and CW's "Gossip Girl." He recently appeared in "Hot Tub Time Machine." He'll next be seen in the thriller "The Apparition" and Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan" starring Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, and Winona Ryder.

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

In comic book lore, Barnes, a teenaged orphan, was too young to join the army but became one camp’s mascot. When he discovered Captain America’s identity, he joined Captain America as a partner in his Nazi-fighting escapades. The character died in Captain America’s final World War II adventure.

After decades of being “dead,” the character was revived in 2005 and brought back into modern comic continuity, initially as a covert assassin named Winter Soldier.

Stan reportedly signed on for five or six pictures. Director Joe Johnston will begin production on the film this summer in Europe.

From "Harold & Kumar" to "American Pie!" Get Ready for "Pie 4" from "Kumar" Creators!

"Harold & Kumar" creators, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, are going to serve the fourth installment of "American Pie" according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Universal Pictures wants to reboot its "American Pie" franchise and has hired the duo to direct. Meanwhile, the third installment of "Harold & Kumar" now known as "A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas" will be directed by newcomer Todd Strauss Schulson. (See "Get Ready for "Harold & Kumar" Part 3! In 3D?") But don't worry folks, Hurwitz and Schlossberg also wrote "A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas".

The duo are also busy writing the "Pie" reboot and both want to reunite the cast of the original movies. Really? Including Tara Reid?

The plot for "Pie 4" is being kept under wraps, but I'm sure we'll again hear the line "One time, at band camp..."

"XXX 3" -- Goodbye Sony, Hello Paramount! Yup, this One's in 3D!

The third installment of extreme sports action film "XXX" is revving up again with some real twists and turns according to Deadline Hollywood Daily.

First, the project has left Sony and negotiations are currently underwway for Paramount to finance and distribute the film for possible release late 2011 or early 2012.

Director Rob Cohen reunites with star Vin Diesel (Cohen replaces Ericson Core who was slated to direct the third installment), and the new flick will be shot with 3D cameras. Well, that's good to know, at least they're just not converting a 2D film to 3D. Oh, all these 3D talks are hurting my brain, not to mention my eyes!

Here's the plot from Deadline Hollywood:

Xander Cage (Diesel) is left for dead, but returns to execute a very difficult assignment that only he can pull off. Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role as Agent Augustus Gibbons, Xander’s handler. Most of the action takes place in Europe. Diesel will star in the film right after he completes another installment of "The Fast and the Furious," which Universal Pictures will release June 10, 2011. Paramount expects to distribute the film six months or so later.

Cohen, who's currently shooting Coke's first-ever 3D commercial, revealed:

"I feel what we did in the beginning of the decade was bring a different attitude to the action movie and a different kind of hero," Cohen said. "With the new 3D instrument and the techniques I can apply, we can create a different kind of cutting-edge experience in 3D by shooting it that way from the beginning the way James Cameron did Avatar. This won't be fantasy characters, it takes place on Earth in real time. That's a new dimension to be explored, and I'm excited."

I met Cohen for "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," and while I'm not a fan of his aesthetics, I do think he's a nice man with visual flair! But the big question, are you interested in watching Vin Diesel be Xander Cage again, or would you rather see him in "The Pacifier 2?" :happy
