Captain Kirk's Father to Star as "Thor?"

Chris Hemsworth, the guy who melted our hearts in his heartbreaking performance as the doomed George Kirk, James T. Kirk's dad in "Star Trek," is in talks to star in Marvel Studios "Thor."

Yes, Hemsworth is the chosen one to play the god of Thunder! He beat out all the other actors who wanted to play the title character.

(For a gallery of "Thor" actors, click here)

Keep in mind though, Hemsworth is still in negotations, although this one's final.

Kenneth Branagh is still attached to direct the film, which is set for release May 20, 2011.

The Australian actor is chosen because of his athleticism and acting skills. Hemsworth will also play Thor in Marvel's planned "Avengers" team for release 2012.

Just like another Aussie, Sam Worthington in "Terminator Salvation," "Avatar," and "Clash of the Titans," Hemsworth will rule the movie world once "Thor" is released!

"Angels & Demons" Flies to No. 1 Box-Office Spot, BUT "Star Trek" Comes In Close Second!

"Angels & Demons," the sequel to "The Da Vinci Code," enjoyed an angelic opening but barely kept Vulcans and Romulans at bay.

"Angels & Demons" failed to match "The Da Vinci Code's" heavenly opening of $77.1 million in 2006 but apparently, Sony/Columbia folks are very happy with the film's box-office triumph.

The Tom Hanks-starrer based on Dan Brown's book opened at No. 1, earning $48 million this weekend with $16.6 million on Friday, $17.8 million on Saturday and $13.6 million on Sunday.

Meanwhile, "Star Trek" only dropped 45% landing on the second spot with $43 million. According to, "This is almost unheard of for a film that opened so huge, but with a level of quality that transcends the genre, the film will have “legs” or as Spock would say, “live long and prosper” at the box-office."

"Star Trek" is a much-loved, and well-received film than "Angels & Demons." Hence, "Star Trek" is expected to stay in the Top 10 box-office list for more weekends to come.

Coming in third is "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." The Hugh Jackman mutant flick took in $14.8 million with a 3-week box-office total of $151.1 million.

Here's the estimated Top 10 Box-Office films for weekend of May 15th:

1. "Angels & Demons," $48 million.

2. "Star Trek," $43 million.

3. "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," $14.8 million.

4. "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past," $6.9 million.

5. "Obsessed," $4.6 million.

6. "17 Again," $3.4 million.

7. "Monsters vs. Aliens," $3 million.

8. "The Soloist," $2.4 million.

9. "Next Day Air," $2.2 million.

10. "Earth," $1.7 million.

Who's Rumored to Star As Frank Sinatra?

Yesterday, we talked about Leonardo DiCaprio "possibly" starring as Frank Sinatra in Martin Scorsese's upcoming biopic of Ol' Blue Eyes.

That's because DiCaprio has been Scorsese's favorite actor as of late ("Gangs of New York," "The Aviator," "The Departed" and the upcoming "Shutter Island").

But I heard that folks at Universal Pictures want Johnny Depp as Sinatra! They are very pleased with Depp's performance in the soon-to-be-released "Public Enemies" that they're joining Walt Disney Pictures in riding the Depp bandwagon!

Hhhmmmm, a Depp and Scorsese collaboration? I'm so there!

"Cliffhanger" Gets the Reboot Treatment!

Since "Star Trek" was super-successful at the box-office, expect more films to get rebooted like "Cliffhanger!"

The 1993 actioner starring Sylvester Stallone about mountain climbers will get the reboot treatment, this time, the new flick will center on young climbers.

No screenwriter is attached yet (nor is Stallone attached to star!), but this new version will feature multiple dangerous mountains for the film's locations.

StudioCanal and Original Films are set to produce.

I remember the original trailer for its prominent use of classical music, so I was able to dug it up, and here it is.
