"Bridget Jones's Diary" the Musical!

"Bridget Jones's Diary" is set to become a live musical!

The 2001 film is based on the popular book of the same name and the author, Helen Fielding, is working on the show's book and will contribute to the song's lyrics.

No word yet on the cast, but Renee Zellweger is definitely NOT returning for the musical version.

I enjoyed the book and the film, so I'm looking forward to seeing the musical!

Critics Are Going Gaga for These Films at Cannes Film Fest

My fellow critics have revealed their favorites at these year's Cannes...so far (remember, we still have until May 24th):

"A Prophet" by Jacques Audiard -- already nominated for the Golden Palm at Cannes, the film tells the tale of a young French-Arab who is sent to prison because of his Mafia associations.

"Bright Star" by Jane Campion -- also nominated for the Golden Palm, it's a drama about the 3-year romance between poet John Keats and Fanny Brawne. And we all know Miss Jane Campion can do period piece like no one else can! Oh yeah, she's also the only woman to have won the Cannes' Palme d'Or.

"Fish Tank" by Andrea Arnold -- also a Golden Palm nominee, the film tells the tale of 15-year-old Mia who must deal with her mom's new boyfriend.

"Vengeance" by Johnnie To -- From Hong Kong, this action drama is about a French assassin working as a chef who goes to Hong Kong for revenge! Another Golden Palm nominee.

That's it for now, more Cannes update later!

Captain Kirk's Father to Star as "Thor?"

Chris Hemsworth, the guy who melted our hearts in his heartbreaking performance as the doomed George Kirk, James T. Kirk's dad in "Star Trek," is in talks to star in Marvel Studios "Thor."

Yes, Hemsworth is the chosen one to play the god of Thunder! He beat out all the other actors who wanted to play the title character.

(For a gallery of "Thor" actors, click here)

Keep in mind though, Hemsworth is still in negotations, although this one's final.

Kenneth Branagh is still attached to direct the film, which is set for release May 20, 2011.

The Australian actor is chosen because of his athleticism and acting skills. Hemsworth will also play Thor in Marvel's planned "Avengers" team for release 2012.

Just like another Aussie, Sam Worthington in "Terminator Salvation," "Avatar," and "Clash of the Titans," Hemsworth will rule the movie world once "Thor" is released!

"Angels & Demons" Flies to No. 1 Box-Office Spot, BUT "Star Trek" Comes In Close Second!

"Angels & Demons," the sequel to "The Da Vinci Code," enjoyed an angelic opening but barely kept Vulcans and Romulans at bay.

"Angels & Demons" failed to match "The Da Vinci Code's" heavenly opening of $77.1 million in 2006 but apparently, Sony/Columbia folks are very happy with the film's box-office triumph.

The Tom Hanks-starrer based on Dan Brown's book opened at No. 1, earning $48 million this weekend with $16.6 million on Friday, $17.8 million on Saturday and $13.6 million on Sunday.

Meanwhile, "Star Trek" only dropped 45% landing on the second spot with $43 million. According to Hollywood.com, "This is almost unheard of for a film that opened so huge, but with a level of quality that transcends the genre, the film will have “legs” or as Spock would say, “live long and prosper” at the box-office."

"Star Trek" is a much-loved, and well-received film than "Angels & Demons." Hence, "Star Trek" is expected to stay in the Top 10 box-office list for more weekends to come.

Coming in third is "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." The Hugh Jackman mutant flick took in $14.8 million with a 3-week box-office total of $151.1 million.

Here's the estimated Top 10 Box-Office films for weekend of May 15th:

1. "Angels & Demons," $48 million.

2. "Star Trek," $43 million.

3. "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," $14.8 million.

4. "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past," $6.9 million.

5. "Obsessed," $4.6 million.

6. "17 Again," $3.4 million.

7. "Monsters vs. Aliens," $3 million.

8. "The Soloist," $2.4 million.

9. "Next Day Air," $2.2 million.

10. "Earth," $1.7 million.
