Freddy Krueger Slashes Competition with $32.2 Million Opening

Moviegoers loved Freddy Krueger! The remake of the slasher flick "A Nightmare on Elm Street" debuted at No. 1 with a $32.2 million box-office take.

Producer Michael Bay knew that more blood could be squeezed from the "Nightmare" franchise and hired Jackie Earle Haley to slip into the Krueger persona previously played by the great Robert Englund.

Honestly, I enjoyed the 1984 version, waaaay better, and the remake is just that...a commercial, financial decision! (Check my review of "A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)" right here )

Meanwhile, Brendan Fraser failed to capture moviegoers' hearts with "Furry Vengeance." The cuddly flick about cute woodland creatures bombed with just $6.5 million opening. (Check my interviews with Fraser, Brooke Shields, and Angela Kinsey right here )

Previous weekend's No. 1 film, "How to Train Your Dragon," fell to No. 2 with $10.8 million raising its total to $192.4 million. (Check out my movie review right here, and my interviews with Jay Baruchel, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, and writers/director Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois)

Here's the estimated Top 10 box-office films list for weekend of April 30:

1. "A Nightmare on Elm Street," $32.2 million.

2. "How to Train Your Dragon," $10.8 million.

3. "Date Night," $7.6 million.

4. "The Back-up Plan," $7.2 million.

5. "Furry Vengeance," $6.5 million.

6. "The Losers," $6 million.

7. "Clash of the Titans," $5.98 million.

8. "Kick-ass," $4.5 million.

9. "Death at a Funeral," $4 million.

10. "Oceans," $2.6 million.

My Fun and Furry One-on-One Interviews with "Furry Vengeance" Cast!

Okay, let me first say that "Furry Vengeance" is tailor-made for kids and adults who love cheap laughs about animals with vendetta. And the reason why I'm recommending the film, is because of star Brendan Fraser, who's game to have fun receiving the brunt of the animals' anger.

It's a fun family film with an environmental message. Go green indeed!

So here are my interviews with the cast including Fraser, Brooke Shield, and "The Office's" Angela Kinsey.

The always manic but sweet Brendan Fraser is the lead actor in "Furry Vengeance." He plays the role of Dan Sanders, a city father who moves his family to the forest!

This is the third time I've interviewed the actor -- and he's funny as always!

In this interview, we talked about his role, working as both the executive producer and actor, the horror angle of the film ("Long Weekend" was supposed to be the inspiration), and all his wackiness and nuttiness!

The super-sweet Brooke Shields talks about her role in the film as Brendan Fraser's wife, Tammy Sanders. She also talks about her comedy bits, and the moral of the story. Oh yes, she explains why she allowed the filmmakers to spoof her "Blue Lagoon" character.

The funny Angela Kinsey talks about her role, working with Ken Jeong, Brendan Fraser, and Brooke Shields, and the ultimate moral of this family comedy. She also gave a hint on what's in store for her "The Office" character, Angela Martin.

Here's more info on "Furry Vengeance" from Yahoo:

A real estate developer moves his family from Chicago to Oregon when his job calls for him to oversee the building of a major housing development. But when his latest project threatens the homes of the local forest creatures, the animals seek revenge by turning a peaceful cul-de-sac under construction into a battlefield of epic proportions. It's man versus nature and the fur is gonna fly!

Running Time:1 hr. 31 min.
Release Date:April 30th, 2010 (wide)
MPAA Rating:PG for some rude humor, mild language and brief smoking.
Summit Entertainment, LLC

Cast and Credits

Starring: Brendan Fraser, Brooke Shields, Ken Jeong, Matt Prokop, Dick Van Dyke

"Anchorman 2" is NOT Happening, At Least For Now

Adam McKay, the writer/director behind "Anchorman" posted on Twitter that: "So bummed. Paramount basically passed on Anchorman 2. Even after we cut our budget down. We tried."

So "Anchorman 2" is not happening! And it's all because of Paramount who was not keen to return to the world of "Anchorman."

But who knows? Maybe, there are many "Anchorman" fans out there, me included, who would do everything in their power to have Paramount give the sequel the greenlight.

This news ain't classy y'all....
