Steven Spielberg has finally made up his mind, he'll be directing Michael Morpurgo's children's book, "War Horse," according to Production Weekly. The film is scheduled to be released on August 10, 2011.
The book was adapted for the stage before by Nick Stafford and was staged at the Olivier Theater in London. The stage version used life-size puppets of horses from the Handspring Puppet Company and won an Olivier Award, Evening Standard Theatre Award and London Critics' Circle Theatre Award for design according to a Wikipedia entry.
It was announced in February that the play would make its Broadway debut and Spielberg bought the film rights of the play. Now, he also wants to direct it too! This is Spielberg territory -- wars, animals, human emotions -- and I'm looking forward to seeing how the director will tell the story from the point of view of the horses.

Sam Rockwell is reteaming with his "Iron Man 2" director, Jon Favreau, for "Cowboys and Aliens." The actor will be joining Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, and Harrison Ford for the comic book adaptation.
Based on the 2006 graphic novel, "Cowboys & Aliens" is about extraterrestrials who land in Arizona in the mid-19th century. Now, a group of cowboys and Apache Indians must bond together to fight these out-of-this world creatures.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Rockwell will play a bar owner named Doc who joins in the pursuit of the aliens. Once Favreau and the writers -- Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof -- learned that Rockwell was interested in the movie, they reconceived and expanded the role, which initially called for a heavy-set man."
Now Doc is skinny and fit

Joseph Gordon-Levitt successfully romanced Zooey Deschanel in the fantastic "(500) Days of Summer," now he wants to be an action hero according to The Hollywood Reporter.
First, the actor is in final negotiations to star in "Premium Rush" for Columbia Pictures from director David Koepp. He is also in talks for the sci-fi thriller "Looper" from his "Brick" director Rian Johnson.
In "Premium Rush," Gordon-Levitt will play a New York bike messenger who picks up an envelope at Columbia University. Trouble is, that envelope is hiding something that a big bad cop wants desperately. Koepp co-wrote the script with John Kamps. Columbia Pictures wants to start production of this film late summer.
Then he has "Looper," a time-travelling sci-fi thriller where the actor will play an assassin sent back to...tan dan dan...kill himself. Hmmm, sorta like a darker, morality tale in the veins of "Terminator."
