James McAvoy to Play Professor X in "X-Men: First Class"

James McAvoy has been hired to play the role of Charles Xavier in "X-Men: First Class." Previously played by Patrick Stewart in the original "X-Men" films, "First Class" aims for younger viewers and will tell how the professor organizes the X-Men band of mutants to fight the good fight.

Here's the logline of the film:

"X-Men: First Class, following the classic Marvel mythology, charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men."

Director Matthew Vaughn, the guy who gave us "Kick-Ass," is set to start shooting this summer.

Who Should Play "Spider-Man?" Meet the Wannabes!

Marc Webb, the director behind the new "Spider-Man" reboot, has been meeting with various actors to don the super hero tights. Keep in mind, there has been no screen tests conducted at this stage yet, and Columbia Pictures and the director are still in search of their actor who could be Peter Parker. So who are on the short list?

First, we have Jamie Bell, the 24-year old English actor who stole our hearts playing "Billy Elliot." Among the "Spider-Man" hopefuls, Bell is the most experienced starring in films like "King Kong," "Defiance," "Nicholas Nickleby," and "Jane Eyre." Bell is also working with Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg for "The Adventures of Tintin."

Then we have Alden Ehrenreich, who has a juicy backstory according to The Hollywood Reporter. He was "discovered by Spielberg, who saw a comedy video starring Ehrenreich at a bat mitzvah of his daughter’s friend."

Third is Frank Dillane whose claim to fame was last year's "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" where he played a young Tom Riddle.

Fourth is Andrew Garfield who gained attention with the British TV movie "Red Riding." Garfield has appeared in "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" and will be next seen in "The Social Network," the Facebook movie from director David Fincher.

And last but not least is Josh Hutcherson who turns 18 this year and is the youngest of the "Spider-Man" bunch. I met this actor for the "Bridge to Terabithia" press junket and you could see his potential. Since then, he has appeared with Brendan Fraser in "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and will be next seen in Focus' "The Kids Are All Right."

Columbia is not commenting on the casting process right now, but the studio wants to begin production by the end of year.

Michael Bay's Latest Project? "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!"

Cowabunga! Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, have been attached to produce "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" for Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon. This one's a reboot and Bay, Fuller, and Form will produce with Galen Walker and Scott Mednick according to Deadline Hollywood Daily.

As we reported last year, this new TMNT will focus on the origins of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael, including their master Splinter.

The producers will begin looking for writers in the next few weeks, and of course, Bay is currently busy with "Transformers 3" and apparently, his heart is set to hire Rosie Huntington-Whitely to replace Megan Fox as Shia LaBeouf's love interest.

Emma Roberts Joins "Scream 4" Cast

Weinstein's Dimension Films has announced that Emma Roberts has joined the cast of "Scream 4." The young actress is set to work with Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Neve Campbell. EW.com is reporting that Roberts will play Jill, one of the film's primary heroines.

“I’m so excited to be part of this ground-breaking franchise,” says Roberts, who was part of the ensemble cast of the recent romantic comedy "Valentine's Day."

Director/producer Wes Craven echoes, “Emma’s talent, beauty, and range will add immensely to the sophistication, intensity, and fun of the Scream franchise as it returns to the screen once more.”

"Scream 4" takes the action back to Woodsboro, the home of Campbell's Sidney Prescott. Roberts' heroine is supposed to be in the vein of Campbell's role.

The fourth installment is set to begin production end of June.
