"Kung Fu Panda 2" Movie Review! Why is Po's Dad a Goose?

The first “Kung Fu Panda” was widely praised by audiences and critics alike when it was released in 2008. The action-packed family comedy grossed more than $633 million worldwide, was nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film, and won 10 Annie Awards, the animation industry’s highest honor.

So it’s no wonder that 3 years later, DreamWorks Animation is releasing the sequel in glorious 3D. This time around, “Kung Fu Panda 2” aims to answer the question that defies explanation: Why is Po’s dad a goose? Read More...

I LOOOOOVE "SUPER 8!"

"Super 8" is definitely one of the best movies this summer! J.J. Abrams crafted a Spielberg-esque film that recalls "E.T.," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," and even "Jurassic Park."

But the best part of the film is the chemistry between the child actors. Their relationship is closer to "Stand By Me" than "Goonies."

"Super 8" is funny, whimsical, and spooky -- all the necessary emotions needed to truly brand a film one of the best this season! I want to see "Super 8" again, and again, and again!

That's all I'm allowed to tell you, but I will post my interviews with the cast very soon! I will also have interviews for "Kung Fu Panda 2" and the raw, undeniably human film, "Beginners."

Very soon...I promise! :tongue

"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" Sails Past Competition BUT Lower Than Third "Pirates!"

Sure, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" opened big, very big, and was even a record-holder internationally with $256.3 million beating 2009's "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" which earned $236 million.

But domestically, the franchise's fourth film debuted with $90.1 million, much lower than the third movie "At World's End" which opened with $114.7 million in 2007. Prior to that, the second film, "Dead Man's Chest" opened with $135.6 million in 2006. You can tell that the debut numbers have been slipping film after film (the new one was even in 3D), is this a sign that audiences, perhaps, are getting tired of the "Pirates" films? ("Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" Movie Review)

But apparently, producer Jerry Bruckheimer already has a script in the works for a fifth "Pirates" so maybe not!

Meanwhile, "Bridesmaids" proved that it has longevity! The super-funny comedy starring Kristen Wiig placed No. 2 at the box-office with $21 million, a small slip of just 20 percent from last weekend's $26.2 million box-office take. (Melissa McCarthy Talks About "Bridesmaids," and "Bridesmaids" Movie Review)

Previous weekend's box-office champ, "Thor" fell to No. 3 with $15.5 million. So far, its domestic total was $145.4 million. ("Thor" interviews with Chris Hemsworth, director Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hiddleston, Kat Dennings, and Jaimie Alexander)

Here's the Top 10 Box-Office Films for Weekend of May 20:

1. "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," $90.1 million.

2. "Bridesmaids," $21 million.

3. "Thor," $15.5 million.

4. "Fast Five," $10.6 million.

5. "Rio," $4.7 million.

6. "Priest," $4.6 million.

7. "Jumping the Broom," $3.7 million.

8. "Something Borrowed," $3.4 million.

9. "Water For Elephants," $2.2 million.

10. "Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family," $990,000.
