"Admission" Stars Production Starring Tina Fey, Paul Rudd, Michael Sheen, Lily Tomlin

Focus Features has announced that production of the film "Admission" begins this week in New York and New Jersey directed by Academy Award nominee, Paul Weitz. (Paul Weitz talks about "Being Flynn" right here)

The dramedy stars Tina Fey, Paul Rudd, Michael Sheen, Gloria Reuben, Wallace Shawn, and Lily Tomlin. The script is based on Jean Hanff Korelitz’s 2009 novel of the same name and adapted by Karen Croner and Weitz.

The plot revolves around Fey's Portia Nathan, an admissions officer at Princeton University. Here's more on the intriguing plotline:

Evaluating thousands of hopeful college students, the exceedingly bright and driven Portia lives her life by the book, both at work and in her relationship with a faculty colleague, Mark (Mr. Sheen). Visiting an experimental New Hampshire high school submitting applicants, Portia is caught off guard when its co-founder John Halsey (Mr. Rudd) turns out to have attended college with her. She is then floored when reminded of the life-altering decision that she made while still a student herself; she had a son, who she gave up for adoption, and who she now realizes may be one of John’s students, the precocious misfit Jeremiah. As Portia’s emotions surge forth, she finds her life turning upside down in embarrassing ways and begins to bend the admissions rules – in the hopes of getting Jeremiah on the best path while perhaps righting her own as well.

Sounds like a winner!

Here's what Focus CEO, James Schamus, said about "Admissions":

“Everyone at Focus is delighted to be continuing our collaboration with Paul Weitz, a truly humane filmmaker. As always, Paul has joined with an amazing cast, for a story that promises not only laughs and tears, but the deep pleasures of understanding and empathy.”

"The Avengers" Reaches $1 Billion in 19 Days, Smashes More Records!

Marvel's "The Avengers" has become the fastest movie to reach the holy grail -- the billion dollar mark -- ever! This past weekend, "The Avengers" held on to the No. 1 spot and selling $103.2 million in domestic box-office tickets for a grand total of $373.2 million. And that's just in the U.S. ("The Avengers" movie review)

Overseas, the fantastic film from writer/director Joss Whedon has sold $95.4 million in tickets for a total of $628.9 million.

The total? Just over $1 billion in 19 days!

Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton must settle for No. 2. Their darkly comic vampire romp, "Dark Shadows," opened with $28.8 million, a distant cry from "The Avengers." That's considerably lower compared to previous Depp-Burton projects such as "Alice in Wonderland" which debuted with $116.1 million, and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" which opened with $56.2 million. ("Dark Shadows" Movie Review)

Overseas, "Dark Shadows" sucked $65.5 million out of international moviegoers. (Win "Dark Shadows" prizes from Warner Bros., click here)

Yes, "The Avengers" has been shattering box-office records. Last week, it has surpassed "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2," and now, the superhero flick has passed the previous best of $75.6 million for "Avatar," making it the first movie to sell more than $100 million in its second weekend.

And more records shattered -- "The Avengers" topped "The Dark Knight's" previous record of reaching $300 million in just nine days. The Christopher Nolan Batman film did that in 10 days.

Here's the estimated Top 10 Box-Office Films for the weekend of May 11th:

1. "The Avengers," $103.2 million ($95.4 million international).

2. "Dark Shadows," $28.8 million ($36.7 million international).

3. "Think Like a Man," $6.3 million.

4. "The Hunger Games," $4.4 million ($2.4 million international).

5. "The Lucky One," $4.1 million ($2.5 million international).

6. "The Pirates! Band of Misfits," $3.2 million ($2.2 million international).

7. "The Five-Year Engagement," $3.1 million ($1.7 million international).

8. "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel," $2.7 million ($1.9 million international).

9. "Chimpanzee," $1.6 million.

10. "Girl in Progress," $1.4 million.
