Henry Cavill's Next Project -- From Superman to "Man from U.N.C.L.E.?"

Wow, this "Man from U.N.C.L.E." project has already so many dramas even before production begins! But we may have a bit of a good news.

Henry Cavill aka "Man of Steel" has entered negotiations to replace Tom Cruise in "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." Guy Ritchie is set to direct and co-produce the adaptation of the 1960s TV series about the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.) and their agents who fight the evil Thrush.

Armie Hammer and Alicia Vikander co-star in the Warner Bros. production. If the deal goes through, Cavill already has good working relationship with WB, the home of "Man of Steel."

I'm interviewing the actor this weekend for "Man of Steel" so I'll ask him to confirm this story, stay tuned...

"Skyfall" Director to Return for Bond 24?

Sam Mendes might have realized he only lives twice so the director, who created one of the best Bond movies with the Oscar-winning "Skyfall," has begun talks with MGM and Sony to direct the next James Bond film aka Bond 24 according to Deadline.

Previously, Mendes has said that he would not set foot in Bond's world again because of theatre commitments such as the productions of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "King Lear."

At one point, esteemed director, Christopher Nolan, was reportedly in talks with Bond producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. Nicolas Winding Refn, Shane Black, Ang Lee, David Yates, and Tom Hooper were also mentioned as possibilities.

But in the end, Mendes might be the one to helm the latest Bond flick. Like what we know about show business, never say never. Stay tuned...

Abdellatif Kechiche's "Blue is the Warmest Color" was the biggest winner of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. "Fast and Furious 6" Races to the Top of Box-Office Heap This Memorial Day Weekend!

As I was getting ready to write off the "Fast and Furious" franchise as one too many "Fast and Furious" movies, along comes "Fast and Furious 6," perhaps the best film of the franchise, and the biggest Universal moneymaker debut...ever.

Starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Tyrese, Dwayne Johnson, and Michele Rodriguez, "Fast and Furious 6" sped to the top of the box-office heap with $120 million domestically and $158 million internationally -- the biggest opening for a Universal Pictures release.

It just won't stop!!! (Thoughts on "Fast and Furious 6," "The Hangover Part 3," and "Epic" here)

And the film stopped "The Hangover Part III" to debut on top. The threequel opened at No. 2 with a still-respectable $51.2 million. Billed as the last "Hangover" ever with the original cast (Bradley Cooper, Justin Bartha, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, and Ken Jeong), the film is somewhat saved by its irreverent end-of-credits treasure that truly captured the spirit of the franchise.

The two new releases together with the animated flick "Epic" (No. 4 at $42.6 million), "Star Trek Into Darkness" (No. 3 with $47 million), and "Iron Man 3" (No. 5 with $24.4 million), helped make this Memorial Day weekend the biggest, record-breaking four-day weekend with $316 million total!

Hurray for Hollywood!

Here's the Top 10 Box-Office Films for Memorial Day weekend of 2013:

1. “Fast & Furious 6,” $120 million ($158 million international)

2. “The Hangover Part III,” $51.2 million ($19.2 million international)

3. “Star Trek: Into Darkness,” $47 million ($13.1 million international)

4. “Epic,” $42.6 million ($23.1 million international)

5. “Iron Man 3,” $24.4 million ($17.4 million international)

6. “The Great Gatsby,” $17 million ($24.4 million international)

7. “Mud,” $2.5 million ($400,000 international)

8. “The Croods,” $1.6 million ($5.8 million international)

9. “42,” $1.6 million

10. “Oblivion,” $1.1 million ($2.3 million international).
