"Magic Mike" Movie Review -- How Many Kisses Do Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey Get?

When I first heard the premise of the film, I thought director Steven Soderbergh was making his own male version of the ultra-campy "Showgirls." But to my surprise, "Magic Mike" turns out to be fun, sexy, and crazy with just the right amount of cheese.

Channing Tatum harkens back to his glory days of male stripping to come up with the story. It's interesting to note that while most actors would shy away from their semi-naked past, Tatum embraces it and even makes a movie about his experience. Read More...

My Fun Interview with "Johnny Loves Dolores" Director Clarissa de los Reyes

Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, Clarissa de los Reyes followed her heart in search of her American dream -- filmmaking. The Filipino immigrant attended NYU's Graduate Film program where she received various scholarships and awards including the 2006 Sara Driver Production Award, the 2006 New York Women in Film and Television Production Grant, the Maurice Kanbar Scholarship, the Tisch Graduate Assistantship for Cinematography and an Honorable Mention at the 2007 Director's Guild of America Student Awards East Coast Division and most recently, the Oberman and Pickert Production Award.

She recently worked with respected director John Sayles for the feature film "Amigo" where she performed as 2nd Camera Operator. Right now, Miss Clarissa is busy working on a feature-length screenplay of "Johnny Loves Dolores."

In this interview shown in The Filipino Channel's Balitang America, we talked about Clarissa's hopes and dreams, working with the semi-retired Princess Punzalan, being part of the Palm Springs International Short Film Festival, and her passion for the cinema. And really, her passion is palpable! Take a look:

Two Filipino immigrants: a lonely clerk at a Money Remittance center and a jobless cleaning lady living illegally in Queens, New York, form an odd arrangement during a recent economic downturn. "Johnny Loves Dolores" examines an aspect of the Filipino migrant experience in which moneydrives relationships, and loneliness is just one of the many consequences faced by Filipinos working and living in another country.

“Brave” and “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” Movie Reviews – Which One is My Pick of the Week?

Two big films are opening this weekend, we have “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” for action fans and “Brave” for the entire family. “Abraham Lincoln” is based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s book (he also wrote the screenplay) and Benjamin Walker stars as our beloved 16th President who moonlights as a vampire slayer. From “Wanted’s” Timur Bekmambetov and produced by Tim Burton, “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” has a head-scratching premise that you have to believe in order to enjoy the film.

“Brave” features the first ever female heroine in the Disney/Pixar cannon. And I say, it’s about darn time! Kelly McDonald voiced the lead role of Merida, a reluctant princess who wants to choose her own path in life. Emma Thompson voiced the Queen Mother, and for the first time, Disney/Pixar focuses on a mother-daughter relationship instead of the usual father/son drama.

But only one movie is my pick of the week, which one? Take a look:
