Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan" to Open 67th Venice Film Festival

I'm so excited for "Black Swan." First, I believe Darren Aronofsky is one of the most gifted directors working today (okay, I forgave him for "The Fountain"); second, I love the cast featuring Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Winona Ryder, Vincent Cassel, and Barbara Hershey; and third, I love psychological thrillers and who best to tackle such a genre but Aronofsky.

Set in the New York ballet world, "Black Swan" will be the opening movie for the 67th Venice Film Festival. It will also screen in competition! Two years ago, Aronofsky won the Golden Lion prize at the festival with "The Wrestler." Will "Black Swan" give him another award? Stay tuned...

Muppets Problems? Pixar to the Rescue!

We all know that Pixar is good, really good right? Its dense storytelling abilities lift its products and characters from just being merely one-dimensional cartoons to living, breathing heroes and heroines we all care about!

So it's no wonder that Disney asked Pixar for help with their upcoming live-action project "The Muppets" with Jason Segel attached. According to The Hollywood Reporter, principals involved with the film flew to "Pixar headquarters in Emeryville, Calif., on Wednesday for a table read of the project with the animation powerhouse."

And this is the second time Pixar has been called by the House of Mouse for help. Pixar also helped shape reshoots for "Tron Legacy."

According to the THR article, the "Pixar Brain Trust" aka "filmmakers John Lasseter, Brad Bird, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton, Michael Arndt, Bob Peterson and president Ed Catmull were there for the consultations. Docter is a particularly avid Muppets fan, so he almost certainly was one of the attendees. On the Disney side, Muppets director James Bobin and producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman were likely in the room along with Segel. Neither Pixar nor Disney would comment."

Let's just hope and pray that Pixar's involvement will truly help the upcoming Disney films.
