No Surprise -- "the Amazing Spider-Man" Tops Box-Office Weekend

It was no big surprise but it was still an amazing feat -- "The Amazing Spider-Man" debuted at No. 1 with $65 million, and has earned $140 million since opening Tuesday. Starring Andrew Garfield as our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man/Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, the Marc Webb-directed flick's success squashed naysayers (yup, including me) who thought it was too early for a reboot. I stand corrected.

Previous weekend's box-office champ, Seth MacFarlane's "Ted" fell to No. 2 with $32.6 and is on-track to become the No. 1 R-rated comedy, sorry "The Hangover."

Here's the Top 10 Box-Office Films for weekend of July 6th:

1. “The Amazing Spider-Man,” $65 million

2. “Ted,” $32.6 million

3. “Brave,” $20.2 million

4. “Savages,” $16.2 million

5. “Magic Mike,” $15.6 million

6. “Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection,” $10.2 million

7. “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted,” $7.7 million

8. “Katy Perry: Part of Me,” $7.2 million

9. “Moonrise Kingdom,” $4.6 million

10. “To Rome with Love,” $3.5 million

"Spider-Man" or "Katy Perry" This Weekend? Watch My Reviews to Help You Decide!

Two big films to enjoy this weekend, first, we have Andrew Garfield sliding into the Spider-Man suit that Tobey Maguire vacated in the Marc Webb-directed reboot “The Amazing Spider-Man.” Is it really a reboot, an homage, or is that your spidey sense tingling déjà vu? (Take a look at my review)

We also have the concert documentary “Katy Perry: Part of Me.” This is not the all-out, honest music documentary in the veins of Madonna’s “Truth or Dare,” but rather a poppy, sugary-sweet confection of a pop princess and the road Perry took to catapult her from a Gospel singer to a superstar.

So, “Spider-Man” or “Katy Perry?” See which one is my pick of the week!

Win Exclusive TED and MAGIC MIKE Prize Pack!

This week on Manny’s Movie Weekend Giveaway, instead of just 1 movie, I’m giving 2 movie giveaways! (Watch the video of the prizes below)

We have prizes for “Ted” (thanks Universal) and “Magic Mike” (thanks Warner Bros!).

One lucky winner will take home the following:

• A cool, green “TED” T-shirt
• “Magic Mike” prize pack featuring mini-posters, beach balls, tank tops, t-shirt

Normally, we give away 1 prize pack for 1 movie, but this time, you get 2 prize packs all in one! And by the way, both movies are fun! “Ted” is beguilingly juvenile featuring a topnotch performance by Mark Wahlberg; and “Magic Mike” is a delight even though I enjoyed the comedy more than its dramatic flair.
