Christian Bale Gets Revenge! See New Trailer for Searing "Out of the Furnace"

Relativity Media has just released the official trailer and poster for their upcoming awards bait, "Out of the Furnace," from writer/director Scott Cooper ("Crazy Heart"). The film has an Oscar caliber cast including Christian Bale, Woody Harrelson, Casey Affleck, Forest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe, Zoë Saldana and Sam Shepard. The trailer is enticing (see below).

Here's the official summary from Relativity:

Russell Baze (Christian Bale) works a dead-end job at the local steel mill, as his terminally ill father did before him. When Russell’s brother Rodney (Casey Affleck) returns home from serving time in Iraq, he gets lured into one of the most ruthless crime rings in the Northeast and mysteriously disappears. The police fail to crack the case, so - with nothing left to lose - Russell takes matters into his own hands, putting his life on the line to seek justice for his brother. Sometimes your battles choose you.

Will This Movie Give Tom Hanks His Third Oscar? See the Trailer for "Saving Mr. Banks"

Walt Disney has released the new trailer for "Saving Mr. Banks" starring Tom Hanks as Walt Disney and Emma Thompson as P.L. Travers, the author of "Mary Poppins." The movie takes us inside the making of "Mary Poppins" and all the hoops that Disney had to go through to get Travers' approval.

We all love "Mary Poppins" now, but it's intriguing to see the drama behind the making of the beloved magical nanny musical starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.

The film, directed by John Lee Hancock ("The Blind Side"), will be Disney's offering this Christmas, just in time for the Oscar season. But here's my question. Will this film have bite? It is, after all, from Disney, so I hope "Saving Mr. Banks" will be a bit edgier and less Disneyfied.

Ben Affleck's Next Role

Ben Affleck's next project looks intriguing!

The actor is in talks to star in "Gone Girl" according to Deadline. It's an adaptation of Gillian Flynn's bestselling 2012 novel. It explores the psychology and dynamics of long-term relationships.

Affleck will play Nick Dunne, a husband in the middle of a sour marriage. The twisty story has crime and violence at its heart. Nick's wife, Amy, has not been cast yet. But according to TheWrap via the Huffington Post, Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron, and Emily Blunt are on the short list. Any of them will be fantastic!

But what about Reese Witherspoon? After all, her production company, Pacific Standard, will produce the movie.

Flynn will adapt her novel for the movie and you know who's directing? David Fincher! The thematic story of love gone bad complete with the dark underbelly of a corroding relationship are right up Fincher's alley!

Ho-Hum or Yay? Sam Mendes Decides to Direct Bond 24, Sony Confirms!

I was getting tired of this "will he or will he not direct Bond 24" dance that Sam Mendes was doing. Sure, he made the best Bond film ever with "Skyfall" but then, he started doing the "I will direct, I won't direct" bait.

But finally, Sony confirmed that Mendes is back and will definitely direct the untitled 007 flick.

Hallelujah! Because regardless of his fickle mind, Mendes is a solid storyteller who can make heartfelt art-house films as well as big, noisy blockbusters with equal grace.

Bond 24 will be released in the U.S. on Nov. 6, 2015 with the U.K. premiere happening two weeks before on Oct. 23, 2015.

And yes, Daniel Craig will once again play our favorite British agent.

Here's the full press release about Bond 24 and Mendes' participation:

CULVER CITY, Calif., July 11, 2013 – Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, EON Productions; Gary Barber, Chairman & CEO, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer; Michael Lynton, CEO, Sony Entertainment, Inc, and Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced that Daniel Craig will once again return as the legendary British secret agent in the 24th James Bond film and Sam Mendes will also return to direct the screenplay written by John Logan. The film is set for release in UK theaters on October 23, 2015 and in US theaters on November 6, 2015.

SKYFALL™, the 23rd James Bond film, took in $1.1 billion worldwide and set a new mark as the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK; it was the best-selling Bond film on DVD/Blu-ray and was the most critically acclaimed film in the history of the longest-running film franchise.

Commenting on the announcement, Wilson and Broccoli said, “Following the extraordinary success of SKYFALL, we’re really excited to be working once again with Daniel Craig, Sam Mendes and John Logan.”

“I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honour all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct Bond 24. I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time,” said Mendes.

Barber added, “We are thrilled to reunite the extraordinary talents of director Sam Mendes with our star Daniel Craig for the next great Bond adventure.” He added, “As evidenced by the phenomenal success of our last collaboration with EON Productions and Sony, the incredible legacy of this 51-year-old franchise continues to amaze.”

Lynton and Pascal said, “It’s a privilege to work on the Bond films. EON, John Logan and Sam Mendes have come up with an extraordinary follow up to SKYFALL and we, along with our partners at MGM, can’t wait to share this new chapter with audiences all over the world.”
