Brett Ratner Wants "Twilight's" Robert Pattinson for "Youngblood"

Brett Ratner ("X-Men: The Last Stand") is working on his big-screen adaptation of the superhero comic book series "Youngblood" and he wants Robert Pattinson to star.

Ratner tells MTV News, "Definitely [Robert Pattinson] from 'Twilight. He just feels like he belongs in that world. I don't only see him as a vampire, he's a really good actor."

"Youngblood," conceived by Rob Liefeld, is about a team of superheroes funded by the government who battles super-villains externally, and tortured drama internally. The leader of the team is a former FBI agent called "Shaft" who is an expert marksman and may likely be the role that Rattner is thinking for Pattinson.

Ratner says, "[Pattinson] could do anything. He just has that look."

"I picture him on Youngblood, for sure."

As of now, the script is still being written, but Ratner is promising that the original comic books' darker themes will permeate into the adaptation.

"My vision for it is: We're going to make a very edgy, cool film," explained Ratner. "We're not soft-peddling it at all."

That's good to hear, though I still have yet to see an edgy, cool Ratner movie. But, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

"Inglourious Basterds" Movie Review! How Many Kisses Do Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino Get?

Say what you want about Quentin Tarantino but he’s a genius filmmaker who doesn’t play by Hollywood rules. He’s a rogue, a rebel who calls his own shots and crafts excellent films that are as deranged and brilliant as he is.

In “Inglourious Basterds,” Tarantino returns with a vengeance, literally! The director calls his World War II payback fantasy his Jewish revenge movie. Indeed, from “Kill Bill” to kill Hitler (played in the movie by Martin Wuttke), Tarantino is great at showing the roaring rampage of revenge.

Come to think of it, I cannot recall a full-out revenge movie within the war genre. “Inglourious Basterds” is the first war-based film I’ve seen where the oppressed (the Jews) are out to get the enemy (the Nazis), one scalp at a time. Read More...

Bryan Singer to Direct "Battlestar Galactica" the Movie!

Bryan Singer, the guy who gave us "The Usual Suspects," the first two "X-Men" films, and "Superman Returns" is setting his sights on "Battlestar Galactica."

Universal Pictures has tapped the director for what's being called a "complete re-imagination" of the popular sci-fi franchise.

"Battlestar Galactica" began as a TV show in 1978 followed by a series of novels, comic books, and video games. In 2003, a reimagined miniseries premiered, and then a regular television series aired from 2004 to 2009.

There's no word yet on the script, the timing, or cast, but one thing's for sure, Singer will put his own creative brand on the project.

"Wolverine" Sequel Gets a Writer, Our Hero is Going to Japan!

Christopher McQuarrie ("Valkyrie") is set to write the sequel to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." Hugh Jackman is developing the project to reprise his role as the razor-clawed super hero Logan.

McQuarrie worked on the script for the first "X-Men" film with director Bryan Singer but didn't take a credit.

The writer is setting the film in Japan and will be largely based on the Chris Claremont-Frank Miller comicbook series "The Samurai." Apparently, Logan has rich historical connection with Japan, and the sequel will show his evolution into a samurai!

I'm making a mental note to read the comicbook series soon.
