"Shazam!" Reboot Gets New Writer, Captain Marvel Lives On!

Back in November last year, we told you about the "Get Smart" filmmaking team's, headed by director Peter Segal, involvement with Warner Bros. to reboot "Shazam!," the long gestating DC Comics adaptation of the Captain Marvel story.

But in January, then scriptwriter John August said that the film is dead.

Now, faster than the comic book character Billy Batson can yell Shazam! that Warner Bros. has hired Bill Birch to write the script. Geoff Johns will co-write and consult on the project.

Segal is still attached to direct and will be co-producing along with his Callahan Filmworks partner Michael Ewing.

So the project is moving forward. But the best part? Warner Bros. is promising that they're going back to the original DC Comics for inspiration.

Another Attempt to Make Jimi Hendrix Film

The legend of Jimi Hendrix lives on!

There's a new feature film being planned by Legendary Pictures about the icon. But the big question, will this project being written by Max Borenstein see the light of day?

From Lenny Kravitz to Outkast's Andre Benjamin, there have been many numerous attempts to make a Hendrix film starring musician-actors to no avail. The problem? Getting the musician's estate, run by his stepsister Janie Hendrix, to approve the projects.

How is Legendary going to succeed this time? Their plan is to develop the movie first, then hope and pray the estate will give the project its blessings. But Legendary has been in talks with the estate because without the music featuring the genius of Hendrix, there will be no movie.

Robert Redford Beats Steven Spielberg to the Punch! Actor-Director to Make "Lincoln" Movie!

Robert Redford goes to the land of Lincoln and may well finish his film before Steven Spielberg's similarly-themed project.

But the main difference between the two films is the premise itself. Redford's movie will concentrate on the conspiracy surrounding Lincoln's assassination, while Spielberg's will focus on the life and times of the great president. Liam Neeson was once attached to play Abraham Lincoln.

Redford will direct the historical drama "The Conspirator" about the story of Mary Surratt, the "alleged" conspirator of Lincoln's assassin John Wilkes Booth.

Mary Surratt "was tried and executed for her involvement in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. The aid she provided Booth with in delivering materials to specific locations for him prior to the murder appeared to prove her guilt, and she became the first woman ever executed in the United States.

Her son, John Surratt, Jr., was involved in John Wilkes Booth's conspiracy schemes in their beginning stages." (Source)

James McAvoy may join the cast once "The Conspirator" begins shooting in the fall. Perhaps the actor will play the role of a young Union hero named Frederick Aiken who defended Mary Surratt, and eventually realized that the widow might have been innocent.

This is compelling and intriguing!

Bruce Willis Joins Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables"

Bruce Willis has confirmed that he will be joining "The Expendables" with an undisclosed cameo. The film, written, directed, and starring Sylvester Stallone is an ultra-violent flick with a star-studded cast!

Also starring in the film is the Governator, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Jet Li, and the fantastic Mickey Rourke. The premise of "The Expendables" revolves around a group of mercenaries overthrowing a South American dictator. It's a balls-out action film!

Willis told MTV News that he will soon join Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger to shoot a very special scene for the flick.

Hhhhmmmm, special?

Here's what he revealed to MTV News:

“Not yet, I haven’t united with them,” said Willis. “I’m waiting for a call from Sly about when we’re going to try and make that happen.”

“I don’t know anything about [my character] yet, haven’t seen any pages yet,” Willis explained. “But I’m excited about it.”

Willis confirmed to us that the scene will involved himself, Arnold and Sly together on camera. “That’s the concept,” he said with a grin. “That’s the plan.”

Oh, besides the above-mentioned cast, other action heroes joining the project are Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin, Terry Crews and Randy Couture. What? Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme are busy?

"The Expendables" will open next April!
