"Twilight's" Catherine Hardwicke Wants New Spin on "Red Riding Hood"

Upon leaving the "Twilight" kingdom, director Catherine Hardwicke remains super busy!

She's developing a "Hamlet" film to star Emile Hirsch, "If I Stay" for Summit Entertainment, "Maximum Ride" and yes, "21 Jump Street," the big screen version, for Sony.

Now, the director has added another project! She just signed on to make "The Girl with the Red Riding Hood" for Appian Way.

This film sounds very close to the "Twilight" world -- there's a werewolf at the center of the film, with a teenage love triangle in the middle.

But of course, "The Girl with the Red Riding Hood" will be a gothic retelling of the Little Red Riding Hood story.

Director Bryan Singer Says Bye to "Excalibur" Remake, Welcomes "Jack and the Beanstalk" Re-Imagining

Bryan Singer said no to remaking the 1981 film "Excalibur" and instead is getting very serious into making "Jack the Giant Killer" as his next directing project.

But the "Excalibur" remake is not totally dead. Singer will remain as a producer for the Warner Bros. project. There's no writer yet. But they better get this quintessential King Arthur film correctly! The original film by director John Boorman was very memorable.

Singer, who signed on to develop "Battlestar Gallactica" as his next producing and directing project, seemed to be gravitating more towards New Line's "Jack the Giant Killer."

The film, inspired by the "Jack and the Beanstalk" legend, will tell the story of a young farmer who leads an expedition into the land of giants to save a kidnapped princess.

Sounds like fun!

New Michael Jackson Concert Documentary Arrives Early

Sony Pictures and Sony Music have pushed up the worldwide debut of the "Michael Jackson This Is It" concert documentary by two days to Oct. 28.

The film will have a two-week exclusive run only! Tickets go on sale Sept. 27.

Directed by Kenny Ortega ("High School Musical" franchise), "This Is It" will feature rehearsal and behind-the-scenes footage. Ortega also choreographed the show.

Ortega tells Variety, "This is Michael's gift to his fans."

"As we began assembling the footage for the motion picture, we realized we captured something extraordinary, unique and very special. It's a very private, exclusive look at a creative genius' world."

The "private, exclusive look" was bought by Sony from concert promoter AEG Live for as much as $60 million. But the film has high "curiosity" factor that I think Sony will be able to recoup that in the film's two-week run.

Initially, the film was supposed to be shown in digital 3-D, but for now, there hasn't been any further talks about the format.

Watch "Inglourious Basterds" Movie Review! Christoph Waltz Rocks!

Quentin Tarantino has crafted a fine film about a roaring rampage of revenge! This time, instead of kill Bill, Tarantino is gunning for killing Hitler.

For my written review of "Inglourious Basterds," click here

Take a look at my review, and have fun :happy

Director: Quentin Tarantino
Starring: Brad Pitt, Mélanie Laurent, Christoph Waltz, Eli Roth, Diane Kruger
Ratings: R - strong graphic violence, brief sexuality, language
Time: 152 min.

- Notes provided by Weinstein Co. -

In the first year of the German occupation of France, Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema.

Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) organizes a group of Jewish American soldiers to perform swift, shocking acts of retribution. Later known to their enemy as "the basterds," Raine's squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) on a mission to take down the leaders of the Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquis, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own....

Employing pulp and propaganda in equal measure, Quentin Tarantino's INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS weaves together the infamous, oppressed, real and larger-than-life stories of WWII.

"Shazam!" Reboot Gets New Writer, Captain Marvel Lives On!

Back in November last year, we told you about the "Get Smart" filmmaking team's, headed by director Peter Segal, involvement with Warner Bros. to reboot "Shazam!," the long gestating DC Comics adaptation of the Captain Marvel story.

But in January, then scriptwriter John August said that the film is dead.

Now, faster than the comic book character Billy Batson can yell Shazam! that Warner Bros. has hired Bill Birch to write the script. Geoff Johns will co-write and consult on the project.

Segal is still attached to direct and will be co-producing along with his Callahan Filmworks partner Michael Ewing.

So the project is moving forward. But the best part? Warner Bros. is promising that they're going back to the original DC Comics for inspiration.
