Top 10 Best Films of Summer 2010! Did Your Favorite Make My List?

I was about to give up on Hollywood this summer. “Iron Man 2” did not soar like its predecessor, audiences gave up on “Sex and the City 2,” and “Jonah Hex” imploded at the box-office.

But there were still some bright spots in our summer moviegoing experience. These films provoked, entertained, cajoled, and gave us hope. Here are my Top 10 picks for the Best Films of Summer 2010. Read More...

Jessica Alba to Join "Spy Kids 4?"

Jessica Alba is in talks to join Robert Rodriguez's "Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World" according to The Hollywood Reporter. This one will be a reboot of some kind since the original spy kids, Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara, are no longer kids...my how time flies!

But Rodriguez wants to continue the moneymaking franchise, so in the fourth installment, Alba will play a retired spy who has been reactivated and the new spy kids will be her kids -- two preteen stepchildren.

THR is also reporting that Rodriguez and Dimension are in search of the actor to play Alba's husband, "a slightly nerdy investigative reporter," and the villain known as the Time Keeper. The big bad wants to stop time!

Antonio Banderas, who played one of the super-spy parents in the first three films, Vega, and Sabara may return in supporting roles, perhaps a cameo. And surprise, surprise, this one will be in 3D.

Are You Ready for Another "Piranha" Movie? Dimension Wants Sequel!

You may have ignored "Piranha 3D" at the box-office this past weekend, but hang on tight, Dimension is planning a sequel! According to the press release, producer Mark Canton said:

“We are thrilled that audiences are not just loving PIRANHA 3D, but cheering for it. And it’s fantastic that so many critics are really getting the movie and recommending it. We can’t wait to get to work on the sequel.”

Well, it's good news, sort of. I enjoyed "Piranha 3D," it is what it is, and is not afraid to show it, sharp teeth and sex and all. (Check out my review of "Piranha 3D" right here) But I think, the qualities we fell in love with in the first film -- raw, edgy verve -- will get lost in the sequel. Suddenly, it's not a novelty anymore. That's the creative risk of making a sequel to "Piranha 3D." But then again, director Alexandre Aja may surprise us, and come up with an even better, edgier flick, so stay tuned...

"The Expendables" is Still No. 1 Movie in America, Sorry "Piranha 3D"

Sylvester Stallone fought off Jennifer Aniston, man-eating fish, vampires, Bow Wow, and a magical nanny to retain the No. 1 position at the box-office. "The Expendables" beat "The Switch," "Piranha 3D," "Vampires Suck," "Lottery Ticket," and "Nanny McPhee Returns."

Lionsgate's "The Expendables" made $16.5 million at the box-office easily leading the pack for its second-straight weekend. So far, the testosterone fest has raised its total to $64.9 million.

Debuting at No. 2 is the "Twilight Saga" spoof "Vampires Suck" from 20th Century Fox. The film sold $12.2 million worth of box-office tickets, and $18.6 million since it opened Wednesday.

Not too far from "Vampires Suck" was the Julia Roberts' globe-trotting drama, "Eat Pray Love." Based on Elizabeth Gilbert's book of the same title, the Sony film ate $12 million at the box-office for the No. 3 position, lifting its total to $47.1 million.

Meanwhile, "The Switch" starring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman, debuted at No. 8 with a disappointing $8.1 million total. A little higher was "Nanny McPhee Returns" at No. 7 with $8.1 million, "Piranha 3D" at No. 6 with $10 million, and "Lottery Ticket" at No. 4 with $11.1 million.

These numbers are all based on studio estimates, and since the differences between some films were very small, expect some changes tomorrow, Monday, for the final tally.

For now, here's the estimated Top 10 Box-Office films for weekend of August 20th:

1. "The Expendables," $16.5 million.

2. "Vampires Suck," $12.2 million.

3. "Eat Pray Love," $12 million.

4. "Lottery Ticket," $11.1 million.

5. "The Other Guys," $10.1 million.

6. "Piranha 3D," $10 million.

7. "Nanny McPhee Returns," $8.3 million.

8. "The Switch," $8.1 million.

9. "Inception," $7.7 million.

10. "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," $5 million.
