Clint Eastwood's "Hoover" and Hanks/Bullock 9/11 Drama Get Release Dates!

Warner Bros. has announced that their upcoming Oscar bait, Clint Eastwood's Hoover" will be released on Nov. 9. Yay! I can't wait for this movie!

Leonardo DiCaprio stars as the iconic F.B.I. director J. Edgar Hoover. The script is written by "Milk's" Dustin Lance Black.

Warner will open the film on Nov. 9 in select cities, and expand it nationwide on Nov. 11.

Another Warner Oscar bait starring Oscar winners Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock from Oscar contender Stephen Daldry ("The Reader," "The Hours") is the drama "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close." This 9/11 drama will be released in limited markets Christmas Day to quality for the Oscars.

Expanding nationwide on Jan. 20, 2012, "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" is about a boy who believes that his father (Hanks), a victim of 9/11, left a final message for him. But his mother (Bullock) does not want to believe him, so the boy begins his journey in search of his father's message. Aw...

And now, for a non-Oscar bait topic, Warner also revealed that the sequel to "Journey to the Center of the Earth" will have its release date moved from Jan. 27, 2012 to Feb. 10, 2012. Starring Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens, Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, and Kristin Davis, is now called "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island."

"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" Movie Review! How Many Kisses Do James Franco and the Chimps Get?

The "Planet of the Apes" series, especially the classic 1968 film starring Charlton Heston, was a cautionary tale about the unthinkable consequences of man playing God. That main thesis is highlighted in the new "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" which shows the evolution of the apes revolution.

Set in present day San Francisco, James Franco as scientist Will Rodman is the one playing God. He works for Gen-Sys, a large pharmaceutical corporation conducting genetic research to develop a benign virus that restores damaged human brain tissue. Read More...

Final Tally: "Cowboys & Aliens" Narrowly Beats "The Smurfs"

It was a nail-biting box-office drama over the weekend. The big question was, would the under-performing "Cowboys & Aliens" outshine the over-performing "The Smurfs" at the box-office?

("Cowboys & Aliens" Movie Review)

Then Sunday morning, it was a draw.

Both Sony Pictures ("The Smurfs") and Universal ("Cowboys & Aliens") each projected that their respective movies would earn $36.2 million, a tie for No. 1. The final results on Monday would decide whether movie audiences favored the western sci-fi over the little blue creatures.

And now this.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Cowboys & Aliens" starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford, "appears to have pulled narrowly ahead of dark horse 'The Smurfs' to win the weekend box office race."

"Cowboys" is expected to claim the top spot with $35.7 million to $36 million, while "Smurfs" settled for No. 2 with $35.6 million.

Previous weekend's box-office champ, "Captain America: The First Avenger" slipped to No. 3 with $24.9 million.

The other new entry to the box-office race was Steve Carell's "Crazy, Stupid, Love" co-starring Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon, and Emma Stone. The romantic dramedy which earned the Critics' Choice Seal of Approval from the Broadcast Film Critics Association earned a respectable $19.3 million to enter at No. 5.

Meanwhile, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" continued to make box-office history. The final film of the "Harry Potter" franchise now ranks as the highest grossing title ever released overseas by distributor Warner Bros.

"Deathly Hallows 2" also has now grossed $1.01 billion worldwide, but "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" is about to enter the $1 billion club very soon. The third "Transformers" movie has generated worldwide total of $983 million over the weekend.

Worse, in today's single world, Cal, who hasn't dated in decades, stands out as the epitome of un-smooth. Now spending his free evenings sulking alone at a local bar, the hapless Cal is taken on as wingman and protege to handsome, thirty-something player Jacob Palmer. In an effort to help Cal get over his wife and start living his life, Jacob opens Cal's eyes to the many options before him: flirty women, manly drinks and a sense of style that can't be found at Supercuts or The Gap. Cal and Emily aren't the only ones looking for love in what might be all the wrong places: Cal's 13-year-old son, Robbie, is crazy about his 17-year-old babysitter, Jessica, who harbors a crush on Cal. 1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde. It's a town that lives in fear.

But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he's been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force.
