Josh Brolin is Spike Lee's "Oldboy!"

I love "Oldboy," the 2003 Korean thriller from Park Chan-wook which was the Grand Prix Winner at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. Mandate Pictures is remaking the film with Spike Lee set to direct the Mark Protosevich script.

Josh Brolin was rumored to be on the short list but now, Deadline is saying it's official: Brolin will be working with Lee and production
begins in March.

Can you picture Brolin as an avenging father who was kidnapped on his daughter's birthday and kept in solitary confinement for 15 years? I can! For now, check out the trailer of the original "Oldboy!"

Hurricane Irene Helps "The Help" Beat New Box-Office Contenders

It was a storm-soaked box-office weekend with the wrath of Hurricane Irene affecting box-office results and helping "The Help" weather competition from new films.

"The Help" remained the No. 1 film of the weekend with its $14.3 million box-office take (so far, "The Help" has grossed $96.6 million and is expected to reach $100 million by Tuesday.) Many East Coast theaters closed in preparation for Hurricane Irene and did not help the fate of new nationwide releases such as Zoe Saldana's action thriller "Colombiana" which debuted at No. 2 with 10.3 million.

Meanwhile, Katie Holmes' "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" from producer/co-writer Guillermo Del Toro only managed to scare up $8.7 million debuting at No. 3. And Paul Rudd's comedy "Our Idiot Brother" landed at No. 5 with $6.6 million.

Here's the list of the Top 10 Box-Office Films for the rain-soaked weekend of Aug. 26th:

1. "The Help," $14.3 million.

2. "Colombiana," $10.3 million.

4. "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," $8.65 million ($22.1 million international).

7. "The Smurfs," $4.8 million.

8. "Conan the Barbarian," $3.1 million.

9. "Fright Night," $3 million.

10. "Crazy, Stupid, Love," $2.9 million.

Hot for Teacher! Johnny Depp's "21 Jump Street" Cameo Revealed!

Johnny Depp rose to fame in the 1980s as a teenage heartthrob in the hit TV show "21 Jump Street." With the film version now in production, it is nice to hear that Depp has not forgotten what made him a big star.

The actor is set to make a cameo as a teacher! According to Life & Style Magazine, "Johnny makes a cameo as a teacher and he bumps into his 'old' character in the halls of the high school."

Depp, of course, starred in the series as the lead detective Tom Hanson. It's interesting to note that on the pilot episode of the show, Jeff Yagher played the character but was replaced in the next episode by Depp. I wonder whatever happened to Yagher.

Jonah Hill co-wrote the script of the movie version and is also one of the stars. He promises that his take on "21 Jump Street" will appeal to the adult crowd. Is he saying that this film will be smart? Hill says, "It's an "R-rated, insane, 'Bad Boys'-meets-John Hughes type movie. We're not even spoofing the [original], it's not strictly comedic, either. We're doing a full-on action movie, blowing s--- up."

So will Depp's co-stars in the show also make cameo appearances? Will Holly Robinson Peete (Judy Hoffs), Dustin Nguyen (Harry Truman Loki), and Peter DeLuise (Doug Penhall) bump into their old characters too?

We'll find out when "21 Jump Street" hits theaters March of 2012.
