Darren Aronofsky to Direct and Produce Real-Life Heist Thriller! 


The $85 million robbery at the Securitas Depot in Tonbridge, England in February 2006 is going to be an indie heist thriller from director and producer Darren Aronofsky.

Kerry Williamson will write the script adapted from Jon Wertheim's Sports Illustrated magazine article "Breaking the Bank" and Howard Sounes' nonfiction book "Heist: The Inside Story of the World's Biggest Robbery."

Archie Comics Gets Hollywood Agent! 


Archie Comics Publications has made a pact with CAA. The agency, which brokered many Mattel film and TV productions, is now going to take care of famous Archie Comics brands such as Archie & Friends, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Josie and the Pussycats, Cosmo the Merry Martian, Super Duck, and Dotty and Ditto.

Hollywood is hungry for established brands, hence, the Archie Comics deal.

Get Ready for "Enron" the Movie! 


Columbia Pictures has acquired screen rights to "Enron," the play, for a high six-figure deal!

The studio is going to turn the stage production, written by Lucy Prebble, into a big-screen adaptation! The play is a drama about the rise and fall of the Texas energy company.

Prebble will adapt her own play and Laura Ziskin will be producing.

Producers Guild of America Expands Nominations to 10 Films! 


Similar to the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences, the Producers Guild of America has expanded nominations for its top feature film category to 10!

The Darryl F. Zanuck producer of the year award will be expanded from 5 to 10.

PGA president Marshall Herskovitz says, "The PGA board approved the expansion of our best-produced picture category nominations to support our colleagues at the Academy, but also because we feel it better represents the unprecedented diversity of films being produced today."

Nominations for the Producers Guild of America award will be announced January 5th. The ceremony will take place January 24th at the Hollywood Palladium.

"Precious" Tops Toronto Film Festival! Is It This Year's "Slumdog Millionaire?" 


"Precious, Based on the Novel, 'Push' by Sapphire," Lee Daniels' inner-city drama took home the 34th Toronto Film Festival's People's Choice award!

"Precious" already won the Sundance's grand jury, audience, and acting for Mo'Nique (she's poised to win Best Supporting Actress Oscar!) so yeah, the film is headed to the Academy Awards.

Last year's Toronto Film Fest winner, "Slumdog Millionaire," swept the Academy Awards, expect "Precious" to get love this Oscar season. And the film has the magic touch of Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry. Both are executive producers of the movie.
