Reboot! "Fantastic Four" Gets Overhaul!

Amidst the shocker that Disney purchased Marvel for $4 billion, comes the news that 20th Century Fox is overhauling one of its popular Marvel franchises, "Fantastic Four."

This made me happy. I'm not a big fan of what director Tim Story and company did with the previous "Fantastic Four" films namely 2005's "Fantastic Four" and 2007's "4: Rise of the Silver Surfer."

But this change is necessary for a better adaptation of the comic book series. Now, Fox has hired Akiva Goldsman as producer of the reboot, and Michael Green is set to write the script.

Green is the co-executive producer of NBC's "Heroes" and he also co-wrote the upcoming "Green Lantern."

The future of the stars of the previous "Fantastic Four" films -- Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis -- is unclear. But if this is going to be a reboot, I think Fox should hire new actors for fresher takes on the characters.

You May Have Heard the Shocker! Disney Bought Marvel for $4B! But What Does It Really Mean?

Fanboys and fangirls were caught dumbfounded with this morning's news that Disney bought Marvel for $4 billion! They were all wondering what would happen to their favorite comic book superhero. Will Mickey Mouse suddenly grow adamantium claws like what a friend of mine envisioned? Will Donald Duck turn green when angry ala Hulk?

Calm down boys and girls. I don't think Disney will ruin our favorite characters. Take a look at how the studio has been letting Pixar continue to flourish with its innovative films. It's a $4 billion-dollar investment and Disney will not let it go to waste.

The reason for the buyout? Marvel traditionally attracts boys, and Disney wants more boys in their target demographics.

But which studios are going to be affected by this Disney and Marvel marriage? Are we still going to be able to see planned Marvel adaptations from other studios?

Thanks to the ever-knowledgeable Nikki Finke of, here's a breakdown of what to expect in the near future when Mickey and Wolverine share house:

*** Sony's deal on "Spider-Man" motion picture right is unaffected. The studio is currently developing the next three films in the franchise.

*** Paramount's 5-film distribution deal with Marvel will go on. Bob Iger, President and CEO of the Walt Disney Company said that the films will be released by Paramount. "Iron Man 2," "Thor," "Captain America," "Avengers," and "Iron Man 3" are not affected by the transaction. Paramount sent this statement to Finke, "We look forward to continuing to work with Marvel and, with today’s announcement, to working with Disney to replicate the incredible success of 'Iron Man' on all our future collaborative projects.”

*** The Marvel Super Hero Island at Universal's Islands of Adventure in Universal Orlando may be affected. Right now, Universal lawyers are hammering out plans to protect the characters in their attraction which include Spider-Man, Dr. Doom, Hulk, Storm, Captain America, Cyclops, Green Goblin, Rogue, Storm, and Wolverine.

What about the "Spider-Man" musical which was halted recently? Sources are saying it's not going to be affected, but it's unclear whether Disney is going to step in and help.

"Spider-Man On Ice" maybe? :happy

Who's Playing the Evil Mom in "Mother's Day" Remake?

As we reported back in May, Troma Films' cult 1980 horror pic "Mother's Day" is being remade!

Rebecca De Mornay will star as the evil mom. First, she played the role of the evil nanny in "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle," now, she's set to play the mother from hell!

Jamie King, Shawn Ashmore, Briana Evigan and Deborah Ann Woll are set to join De Mornay when the film stars shooting next week in Winnipeg.

Darren Lynn Bousman is set to direct from Scott Milam's script. The plot is about a ragtag members of a vicious, violent family, with a sadistic mother who instructs her sons to do all the killings.

The filmmakers are aiming for a Mother's day release date next year.

"The Green Hornet" Pushed Again, Gets New Release Date!

I guess third time's the charm for "The Green Hornet," the big screen adaptation of the classic TV show starring Seth Rogen.

First, the film was supposed to open on June 25, 2010, then it was moved to July 9.

Now, Sony is moving "The Green Hornet" out of its summer slate and will release the movie on Dec. 17, 2010.

Director Michel Gondry begins shooting the film this week. The script is co-written by Rogen with Evan Goldberg.

Rogen stars as the masked crimefighter known as the Green Hornet. Jay Chou replaced Stephen Chow as Kato.
