From FX-driven movies to Oscar hopefuls, here are the films I’m looking forward to seeing this fall.
“9” – From producers Timur Bekmambetov (“Wanted”) and Tim Burton, this post-apocalyptic nightmare promises to be surreal and heartbreaking.
“Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” – Based on the 1982 children’s book by Judi and Ron Barrett, the film tells the tale of a town where food falls from the sky. Yum!

Alexis Tioseco (pictured left) and Nika Bohinc (pictured right) were shot dead after they disturbed robbers in their Manila home.
This is sad. The Southeast Asian film community is in shock over this news.
Tioseco, a Filipino-Canadian critic, and Bohink, a Slovenian journalist, both worked as programmers and film critics. According to the Mindanao Enquirer newspaper, both were shot several times by one of the three suspects who broke into their home. The newspaper further reported that the police were investigating the alleged involvement of the housemaid. After stealing a laptop and some valuables, the assailants fled in the couple's car.
Both have been strong supporters of Southeast Asian cinema. Tioseco did much to help young independent Filipino filmmakers. He wrote for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, as well as the Philippine Star. He was also the founder of the online journal Criticine.
Tioseco's partner, Bohinc, was a former editor of the Slovenian film magazine Ekran, and she was working as a freelance journalist in Manila.

This coming Friday, Paramount is re-releasing "Star Trek" in almost 100 Imax locations!
The film will only play in Imax for two weeks!
So if you want to see this film again (I've seen it 5 times already -- I love this movie, it's one of my favorite films of the summer) and in Imax to boot, then here's your chance.
So far, "Star Trek" has made $256.7 million, placing it as the Top 5 highest-grossing film of the summer.
Incidentally, summer of 2009 has record-breaking success! It's the highest grossing summer ever. Read the full story right here.

Amidst the shocker that Disney purchased Marvel for $4 billion, comes the news that 20th Century Fox is overhauling one of its popular Marvel franchises, "Fantastic Four."
This made me happy. I'm not a big fan of what director Tim Story and company did with the previous "Fantastic Four" films namely 2005's "Fantastic Four" and 2007's "4: Rise of the Silver Surfer."
But this change is necessary for a better adaptation of the comic book series. Now, Fox has hired Akiva Goldsman as producer of the reboot, and Michael Green is set to write the script.
Green is the co-executive producer of NBC's "Heroes" and he also co-wrote the upcoming "Green Lantern."
The future of the stars of the previous "Fantastic Four" films -- Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis -- is unclear. But if this is going to be a reboot, I think Fox should hire new actors for fresher takes on the characters.
