Yes, Ed Wood's "Plan 9 From Outer Space" is being Remade! Hurray? See the Teaser/Trailer!

"Plan 9 from Outer Space" from writer-director Ed Wood Jr. is considered one of the worst films ever made in cinema history!

Released in 1959, the film's plot is about aliens re-animating the dead in order to take over mankind! Now, this cherished cult classic is getting a remake makeover just in time for its 50th anniversary from director John Johnson and Darkstone Entertainment.

The remake is just going to be called "Plan 9" and this is going to be a serious take on the film. Johnson and company will pay homage to the spirit of Wood's film without resorting to camp or parody.

According to the "Plan 9's" official website:

The film will focus on the horror and science fiction aspects of the original, but will also be largely character-driven. Johnson's goal for "Plan 9" is to make a film that honors not only the original source material, but also Ed Wood's intentions when he made "Plan 9 From Outer Space". Wood's plan was to make a very scary sci-fi/horror film, and Johnson wishes to do exactly that - create a film that Wood would have enjoyed, or perhaps even made himself, if not bound by the technological limitations placed on filmmakers 50 years ago.

Apparently, "Plan 9" received the blessing and participation of Conrad Brooks, the sole surviving member of the original film's cast and crew.

"Even if Eddie was a little off in his filmmaking skills, you cannot deny his passion," Johnson says. "I feel a strong camaraderie for the man and his work, and hope that I can make a film that would be as loved by audiences today as the original was for his generation. Only this time with its true intention."

Take a look at the teaser/trailer of "Plan 9" and see the serious mood that Johnson is going for.

Sly Stallone Reveals "Rambo 5: The Savage Hunt" Plot and New Poster!

Last week, Nu Image/Millennium Films announced that a fifth installment in the "Rambo" franchise is being planned. Along with the announcement, a storyline was provided. The plot of the fifth film has Rambo fighting human traffickers and drug lords to rescue a young girl abducted near the U.S.-Mexico border.

But Sylvester Stallone complained to Ain't It Cool News that the plot storyline provided was wrong! Here's the synopsis of the "Rambo V: The Savage Hunt" according to Stallone himself:

John Rambo could track anyone - or anything - on earth. Now the military desperately needs him for a mission that his ultrasensitive instincts tell him he should refuse. A beast is loose somewhere north of the Artic Circle. It has already decimated a secret research facility and annihilated a squad of elite military guards. And the raging creature is headed south toward civilization, ready to wreak bloody devastation.

It's a job that Rambo and his 22-year-old hunting partner, Beau Brady, can't turn down, but they and a team of highly-skilled special forces kill team discover that the prey is a terror beyond their wildest imagination - a half-human abomination created by a renegade agency through a series of outlawed genetic experiments. It has man's cunning, a predator's savageness, and a prehistoric power that has transcended the ages. And even if Rambo and Beau survive its unrelenting hunger for human blood, they'll still have to confront the grim reality that it may have grown immortal.

Huh you said? Rambo is going to fight a savage beast? Stallone has been heard saying that the beast represents the primal fear within us all. Okay, I'll buy that. But now, many fans are saying that "Rambo V" is very similar, thematically, to the novel "Hunter" by James Byron Huggins.

You see, Stallone owns the film rights to the book! Take a look at the official description of the novel "Hunter" and then decide:

And here is the official description of James Byron Huggins' "Hunter":

One of Hollywood's hottest action-film writers, James Byron Huggins is a master at keeping the action rolling and the pages turning. Here, the author of Cain ("may be the thriller of the year" -- BookPage), unleashes a lightning-quick tale that pits a man born out of his time against the future's deadliest creation.

Nathaniel Hunter could track anyone -- or anything -- on earth. Now the military desperately needs him for a mission that his ultrasensitive instincts tell him he should refuse. A beast is loose somewhere north of the Arctic Circle. It has already decimated a secret research facility and annihilated a squad of elite military guards. And the raging creature is headed south toward civilization, ready to wreak bloody devastation.

It's a job that Hunter can't turn down, but he soon discovers that his prey is terror incarnate, a half-human abomination created by a renegade agency through a series of outlawed genetic experiments. It has man's cunning, a predator's savageness, and a prehistoric power that has transcended the ages. And even if Hunter survives its unrelenting hunger for human blood, he'll still have to confront the grim reality that it may have grown immortal.

See? Do you agree with the fanboys? Is "Hunter" very close to the plot of "Rambo V?"

I still will give Stallone the benefit of the doubt, because you know what? He still can make an interesting film, even if it's the fifth movie of an otherwise aging franchise.

Let's wait and see. Oh by the way, the poster above is not being revealed until the Toronto International Film Festival this weekend. It's kind of primal isn't it?

Nicolas Cage Drops Out of "The Green Hornet!"

First it was Stephen Chow who said goodbye to the "Green Hornet" production (Jay Chou replaced him for the role of Kato), now, Nicolas Cage is following suit. The actor is not going to be the villain in the upcoming "The Green Hornet."

Co-written by star Seth Rogen, Cage said goodbye to the project because he and Columbia Pictures were not able to come to terms on a deal.

The studio declined to comment but they're on the hunt for a new big bad.

Being directed by Michel Gondry, the production just began principal photography in Los Angeles last week. Both Rogen and Chou are still headlining the project, alongside Cameron Diaz as the love interest.

As for Cage? I wonder what part of the deal he didn't like...hhhmmm....

"9" Movie Review

“9” was originally an Academy Award-nominated 2004 short film by director Shane Acker. With help from directors-turned-producers Timur Bekmambetov (“Wanted”) and Tim Burton (“Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” “Corpse Bride”), Acker adapted his short film into a full-feature animated fantasy.

Written by Pamela Pettler, “9” is a post-industrial fable where machines are the enemies. The film is set in the not-so-distant future. The Great Machine, an invention that was supposed to help mankind, enabled the world’s machines to turn on humans and sparked social unrest. Humans are no longer walking the earth.

The only hope is a patchwork doll named 9 (voiced by Elijah Wood) who is given the spark of life by a scientist during the final days of humanity. 9 displays leadership qualities that may help save the legacy of civilization. Read More...
